Howard Stern's 60th birthday bash tonight. Sirius.com is streaming it live for free. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and there are a lot of stars including an extremely rare appearance by David Letterman, looking forward to hearing Howard interview him. Should be awesome.

http://www.siriusxm.com/

I believe that the show kicks off at 6pm EST. Pre-show going on right now.

Letterman interview was epic. Only Stern can have a personal conversation in the middle of a jammed concert hall.

I still have to listen to the last hour or so of the broadcast... but everything I heard was great and the Letterman interview was probably the highlight. Definitely lived up to the hype. Reminded me of the cool variety shows from the 70s.

It was a birthday party not a farewell ceremony. Maybe you're confused with the Stern who's bowing out as NBA commish.

Pretty sure Mizzi is a Stern listener... I assume he meant the way he left that particular broadcast.

He still has 2 years left on his contract... then hopefully he re-signs.

Really? I find the show has been better than ever since he went over to Sirius and in particular over the past year or two. That seems to be the overwhelming opinion on the show from what I can tell.

There does seem to be a segment that misses the strippers and porn stars every other episode but that to me was the worst part of the show... and still is when he does have them on from time to time. I prefer the uncensored banter between him and he other show personalities and guests.

I used to really like Stern. He I realized that as much as he likes to dish it, as soon as someone dishes it back he insults them then hangs up. Lame. If you dish it, you best be able to participate in a give and take and not puss out because of bruised labia.

Yeah, Howard may not be the best looking guy around but he's aging well for sure. He claims that he's never dyed his hair... and considering how brutally honest he is about much more embarrassing things I have to believe him.

I wonder if that was before I listened cause he doesn't seem to do that anymore as far as I can tell. In fact the majority of emails, tweets and news stories he reads on air are ones that rip him... and he takes a fair bit of negative of negative calls.

To be fair, it's been years. Just after Q107
When I got sattelite radio. Then it just got ridiculous. Maybe it's evened out. I even watches his

I don't think that's the overwhelming opinion at all. He has become a bit of a vapid hollywood kiss ass sellout, to be honest. Most fans turned on him around the time he made up with Rosie, but for me making up with Kathy Lee sealed the deal. He just has become a lot less likable IMO. He used to say things that everyone is thinking.. I just think he doesn't relate to the average person anymore. To be fair, it's hard to be the voice of the people when you make so much money, so I don't blame him. I still love him and listen occasionally, but it's not the same for me.. especially since Artie left, but even before that.

I'm not as bitter about it as most fans, though. He gave us 30 great years of radio.. of course he's going to be past his prime at 60 years old.

Btw, he definitely dyes his hair and that may even be a wig. Don't be fooled.

No no no. I'm not as bad as those "fans." Those guys whine nonstop about how much the shwo sucks yet continue to listen daily. I just noticed a drop-off in quality, as should be expected. He was an immature mid-40's disc jock with serious anger issues. That made for great radio for so many years. He has mellowed out now, and become a hollywood suck-ass with an annoying ****y wife. It's no different than any of us would be with that kind of money so I completely forgive him. I will still forever love Howard, and his show is still better than anything else on the radio.

As for his hair.. I mean the guy kept the nose job thing secret for like ten years and even made fun of others who get plastic surgery constantly. Would it really surprise you that much if he dyed it or had a wig? I'm leaning more towards dying it, but neither would surprise me. There's no way a 60 year old has jet black long, luscious hair.

What part? There are a lot that prefer the show now. If you preferred listening to an angry guy get upset about everything and talking with strippers and porn stars every show that's fine... more power to ya. I think it was entertaining before but I love the current product a lot more. His interviewing skills are better than ever and the show is just a lot better imo. Remember when he took phone calls? His show is restrained now and completely controlled. And when he is airing that dreadful reality show, America's Got Talent, his radio show becomes a four hour commercial with canned callers telling him how great it is. I still listen and enjoy the show, but to say he is at the top of his game just seems bizarre to me. His show is what it is...a shadow of its former self with phoned in performances (his head writer is Benjy Bronk!)

I wouldn't even know how you could quantify what his fans prefer? I mean the guy even shuts down negative discussion on his unofficial fan boards.

Well you just said that no real fan could say that they like the show more now with a straight face... but I can't say that some people do like it more now when you're saying that nobody could?

So you can only quantify people not liking it anymore? I'm not saying that everyone likes it more now but a lot of people do. I don't buy any of that conspiracy shit. That he monitors fan boards and shuts down negativity... and plays canned calls. If so, he does a piss poor job of it. There's a ton of negativity towards him on those boards and he gets a lot of negative calls.

I always found the strippers, porn starts, the sybian, fart jokes etc all super cringeworthy and uninteresting.......Howard is legitimately one of the best interviewers on the planet though when he's on his game. His interaction with his own staff is often some quality stuff as well.

I swear that a large portion of his old school NY fanbase is jealous that he found a wife though, and has found someone that makes him happy......back when they would call in, or on the message boards, a huge portion of them just sound like jilted lovers. In their eyes he was supposed to be a man of the people, and one of them, so him ending up married with a tall blonde model, just doesn't fit with the narrative they had wanted.

I've listened since he first came on the radio in Toronto and without a shadow of a doubt the show is better now. Some of his interviews over the past year including Jewel, Metalica, Bradley Cooper, Russel Brand have been can't miss radio.

On top of that you've seen the emergence of Ronnie, Sal, Richard, and JD. You're talking absolute shite if you think the show has dipped.

The interviews are still great. The rest of the show has gone down in quality, though. I didn't realize people actually felt otherwise. KC Armstrong? Stuttering John? Jackie Martling? Artie Lange? And of course, the prime of the show had the great Billy West. But even without those great characters, I feel like Howard has become a lot less likable in recent years.

Oh, and this person would kill me if I said anything, but I know a guy that interned for Stern last year. He told me some things that would surprise a lot of you. I wish I could say something, but I'm just going to be a dick and dangle the carrot. Needless to say, I lost a lot of respect for the show after his stay there.

KC, Stuttering John and Jackie were all annoying. I'd take JD over any of them. That kid is gold. Even Benjy is better than those guys. I find Howard far less whiny these days. He's also not so unrealistically angry either. He gets pissed off at a lot of stuff, but who can really be as angry as he used to be... it seemed put on.

Stuttering John? Yeah, he was a douche, but his interviews were great. Yes, he didn't write the questions, but the man had balls. Jackie? I know KC very well, I wasn't nearly as big a fan of him as I am of JD. He was insane and incredibly stupid but I'll take incredibly socially awkward over stupid any time. Howard and Fred ripping on JD is absolute gold... and the Judge JD theme? Brilliant.

He was just an out of control alcoholic, and it got really bad near the end. The story goes, the general manager of the station, Tom Chiasano went to his place to have a little intervention and he found KC cutting himself and writing in blood on the back of a bible. Just purely self-harming stuff. And that's what sealed it.
