GDT - Leafs @ Aves | 9:00PM TSN4

number17

Mod Squad
See if my luck with GDT can turn the buds back in the right direction.

After the 'turtle start' (in Carlyle's term) and the 3-2 loss to the Coyotes that started off the western swing, the Leafs are back at it tonight vs. the Aves, and face a team with similar consistency issues as us.

Aves have lost 3 in a row and only won once in the past 6. Roy's team has not looked good at all.

The Aves made the playoff last year, but with an extremely high shooting percentage, winning a lot of shootouts and a lot of 1-goal games ... which many experts deemed unsustainable and regarded it a 'lucky season' for the rookie coach in Roy and his team. Surely the Aves have taken a step back thus far this season, and in particular, failed to pick up points in shootout, which gave them so many bonus points last year. Roy said "We need to score and put the puck in the net." .... and it's probably this great insight that got him the Jack Adams but at the moment it doesn't seem to be helping the Aves.

On our side, we need to get back on the horse and start winning some games. The 3-2 loss was a setback after the 3-games winning streak, what is interesting tonight, and things to watch out for are:

- Will Carlyle stick with the Kadri-Kessel combo still? Or will he revert to Bozak-Kessel for most of the game?
- Kadri got very little icetime when Carlyle leaned on Bozak, Kessel, JVR, Clarkson and Winnik. Even Holland got more icetime last game ... will that continue tonight?
- To reward for his excellent start on Sat vs. the Hawks, Reimer was given the Coyotes start, and didn't look nearly as solid in the loss. Bernier will most likely get the start tonight ... what will he do with it?
- Gardiner looked particularly bad (again) on Tue and Percy is along on the trip. Will he get a start?

Last time the Aves were in town we edged them 3-2 in OT ... let's hope we can extend their losing streak tonight!

Go Leafs Go!

According to Mirtle, the Leafs are starting Bernier and the Avs are starting Berra. I'm glad we're not facing Varlamov.

BTW, it's the Avs not Aves. Just like it's the Leafs not Leaves.

If Carlyle goes back to Bozak with Kessel rather than Kadri, I'm going to hurt my tv.

Again, in addition to zonestart-adjusted 5v5 CLOSE (ccf%) i've added zonestart-adjusted 5v5 TOTAL (cf%). I still think the first number is best all things being equal but the 2nd number gives us a much bigger sample size to go off of, so it's probably similarly valuable at this point in the season.

Got the lines wrong zeke ... i bet you Randy's going back to his old lines and the Kadri-kessel experiment is already over

Looks like the love affair with Matt Frattin continues. According to Paul Hendrick, it looks like he's drawing back into the lineup tonight, and possibly Stuart Percy as well.

Let me guess, they're going to sit Ashton ... the only good skater thru the game on Tuesday.

Heh, that was my first thought. Hopefully it's Richard Panik coming out and not Ashton, even though Panik has also looked better than Frattin thus far.

And if Percy draws in, hopefully it's not so that Randy can implement his idiotic 7-D/11-F system once again.

Ashton's will be enrolled in the NHL/NHLPA Program for Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health for evaluation and possible treatment.

Damn, he looked really good the other night. Maybe pumped up on something, because he was the only Leafs player with any energy in the first half of the game.

Crazy that Ashton is this bad on PEDs.

:smilielol5:

My thoughts exactly. This game is super winnable for us. Avs are a worse possession team than we are and they're on their backup as well.

"The Avalanche (3-6-5) have lost two consecutive games in regulation while getting outshot by a combined 70-40. Players held a team meeting Tuesday after allowing five consecutive goals in a 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks."

Avs have a winning record vs. TO overall but did manage to beat them (Well, THRILL beat them) earlier in the season.
Calling 4-3 Leafs (OT).
