It sounds funny to say this about a Leaf prospect, but I kind of hope Gauthier doesn't make it onto the team.

As a big believer in the notion that Team Canada, in all of its various incarnations, should adopt a "Pick the best, and most talented players, period" as its rule #1, I can't imagine that he deserves a spot on this team under that criteria.

how does Strome not even get an invite? especially when Crouse does? weird.

PPG

C.McDavid (17): 2.83
M.Domi (19): 2.08
M.Dalcolle (18): 2.05
S.Reinhart (19): 2.00
R.Chartier (18): 1.78
R.Fabbri (18): 1.68
B.Point (18): 1.44
N.Petan (19): 1.32

J.Dickinson (19): 0.95
F.Gauthier (19): 0.83
N.Baptiste (19): 0.80
L.Crouse (17): 0.67

Possible Lines:

Domi - McDavid - DalColle
Chartier - Reinhart - Fabbri
Paul - Point - Petan
Ritchie - Gauthier - Virtanen
(Klimchuk - Dickinson - Elle)

though good bet that ritchie and virtanen are higher in the lineup just because truculence.

J.Hicketts (18): 1.29
M.Bowey (19): 1.20
D.Nurse (19): 1.00
T.Sanheim (18): 0.93
S.Morin (19): 0.89

J.Morrissey (19): 0.82
S.Theodore (19): 0.57
H.Fleury (18): 0.42

no doubt canada takes the likes of Fleury and heatherington even though they shouldn't.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it too. Both because he's a returning player, which usually almost certainly guarantees you a spot, and because the people running Canada's World Junior program seem to strongly believe that you need grinders, penalty killers and muckers on the team to balance out the talented players (which goes a long way towards explaining why we haven't won gold in five years, and haven't even finished with a medal the last two years).

Too bad for us he doesn't play for his birth country, instead of his homeland.

Still, it's going to be fun watching him play for Sweden.

Round Robin Schedule for Canada and Sweden in the WJC:

Fri, Dec.26: Canada vs. Slovakia, 8PM (Bell Centre, Montreal)
Sat, Dec.27: Sweden vs. Denmark, 1PM (Air Canada Centre, Toronto)
Sat, Dec.27: Canada vs. Germany, 8PM (Bell Centre, Montreal)
Mon, Dec.29: Sweden vs. Russia, 5PM (Air Canada Centre, Toronto)
Mon, Dec.29: Canada vs. Finland, 8PM (Bell Centre, Montreal)
Wed, Dec.31: Sweden vs. Switzerland, 1PM (Air Canada Centre, Toronto)
Wed, Dec.31: Canada vs. United States, 4PM (Bell Centre, Montreal)

I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this tournament being played in the Eastern time zone, and having time off to watch these games this year.

Hey Guys,
Have to ask for some advice on how to sell these world junior tickets I purchased 11 months ago. I've four platinum ticket packages in section 114 row 9, worth approximately $2300 per ticket package. Each package is good for 19 games in Toronto including the medal rounds, plus an exhibition game this Friday the 19th.

I've posted them on Kijiji/Craigslist with minimal luck. What's gonna be the best way to solicit these tickets to the public? Would rather just sell them as entire packages and take a loss TBH. Anyone interested or have any experience with this kind of thing?

Yep. Alexander Nylander (http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=212641).

He's 16 years old, and will be eligible for the 2016 NHL draft. He's got pretty impressive scoring numbers in Sweden's junior league, and has made the jump from that league to Sweden's version of the AHL (Allsvenskan, the league directly below the SHL), but his numbers are pretty far behind what Slick Willie did at the same age.

I'm pretty sure he's already mentioned that repeatedly.

I expect that, as per usual, once he's played in another NHL market for 6-7 years, he'll have gotten over that.

You need him to go somewhere, where's it a gong show and he leaves after 7 years. Not that easy tho.

We had a chance with seguin in Boston and his relationship with management before he moved to Dallas And loves it there.

His numbers being lower is nothing to be ashamed of. At the same age, W. Nylander was seen as someone who'd be in the race for 1st overall in the draft. While Alexander Nylander doesn't have the same kind of hype behind him, he's still has nice potential (and some very nice hands to boot).

I was given inane seats to the Sweden/Russia game yesterday. Practically on Sweden's bench.

Watching Nylander's skating and puck handling from that close is just insane. His edgework is as elite as it gets. And he handles the puck at top speed. So talented.

Nah, he's not a floater at all. The one thing he definitely does is skate. backechecking, forechecking, that kid flies out there, and is a puck hound.

That was Nylander's least visible game of the tournament so far. Russia played a good game. Russia did a great job of taking away the middle of the ice. I didn't see him floating at all. He was skating. It was more like Nylander, along with most of Sweden, got frustrated and started to try to do everything on their own to score after Russia started taking it to them.

Man, how badly did the Edmonton Oilers screw over the German hockey program?

Minus the best prospect that country's produced in ages (Leon Draisaitl), or maybe ever, they lose back-to-back games against Switzerland and have been relegated to the "B Pool" for next year's tournament. This so that the Oilers could keep Draisaitl on the roster in the midst of a lost NHL season, when it was also clear that he's not ready to be in the NHL.

Then, as the cherry on top of the sundae, they send Draisaitl back to junior hockey anyways, right after Germany's been relegated.

Yeah, the Nylander I've seen in this tournament doesn't seem to be afraid at all of taking the puck into traffic, or fighting for it along the boards.

But since he is a Leaf prospect (and a non-Canadian to boot), I suppose it's inevitable that Nylander is faced with "floater/one-dimensional/no heart" type criticism. Not to single Preston out, though. The semi-final against Russia definitely wasn't Nylander's best performance.

leafman101
01-05-2015, 01:49 PM
Honestly, the questions for Nylander will be with his development and whether he can play the same way at the NHL level. When playing against his own age, there certainly haven't been many flaws. Was the best player at the U18s last year, and one of the best players at the U20 this year. Hell he has been one of the best players in the SHL this year. He looks on another level from the kids his age, not "flawed at his age".

He is unarguably one of the best players in the world at his age.

Yeah he was skating. He doesn't stop though. No stops and starts. Just float float float. I mean, I'm glad they drafted him. Absolutely incredible talent and not a pussy like Kessel. But he has his flaws for sure. He can be an impact player at both ends of the ice if he gets his shit together. He's young so I'm not concerned in the least.

I remember that game when they won in OT after Luongo I think it was gave up that long goal in ot. There was also the one where the Russian team needed a case of Clearasil after they beat us. Don't get me started on our choke from a few years ago where we blew what, a three goal third period lead.

Fucale can't give up that second & fourth goal. He just can't. Both pucks hit him and he should be able to control those rebounds. It'd be one thing if it was a quick pad save that generated a rebound in the slot. But a puck off the chest both times?
