The official NFL thread

Meh. He must have missed the media training class on dealing with a heartbreaking loss.

See I like watching good defense. Some people just want to see a lot of scoring I guess.
I agree.

Many people saying it was a horrible game and I 100% disagree. It was a competitive game with two great defenses that came right down to the last 2 minutes.

Compare it to other games (like the last time the broncos were here) and it was pretty darn good.

I know everyone is crucifying Newton for the fumble, but it looked to me like he thought his guy was going to recover it. Hesitated for a split second and then it was too late.

Breaking it down in slow motion, frame by frame and suggesting that he took the time to consciously decide not to dive for the ball is ridiculous. You either act, or you freeze. There is no time to think.

There was definitely an angle that showed that his guy had a line on the recovery, but Newton took a step toward the ball, and then stood up and took two steps back. Still think he's at least got to get on the ground and try to put his hands on it.

There was some speculation that he was hurt (shoulder, collarbone?) and that is what prevented him from jumping into the fray.

There's a fine line between great defense and complete ineptitude on offense.

The fact there was not a single passing touchdown and two offensive touchdowns all game shows me that this game was near unwatchable. Watching two teams in a punt off.

Such a bad game to watch for me and my buddies and this is coming from someone who wanted the Broncos to win.

Carolina beat themselves with awful turnovers, missed catches and penalties as much as the Denver D did

Jerricho Cotchery in particular was a pile of trash, dropping 2 huge passes.

And while a couple of the turnovers are all credit to Denver, a couple of them were just brutal decisons/executions by Carolina

I call garbage. He may have been hurt (like every other footballer after a full season) but to not make an attempt at the ball showed his true colors. I am thrilled he didn't win. We got to see the "boring" white man win instead, but atleast he did it with professionalism and dignity.

No more of this stupid sneeze dance. Embarrassing.

I like Newton, but it was pretty hilarious seeing him on the verge of tears in the post-game press conference after all the showboating and taunting of opponents he's engaged in all season.

He's 26 years old turning 27. Not 16 turning 17. Grow the **** up.

Go home grandpa, you're drunk.

Good. I don't care. Guys like Newton love to dish, but the second shit gets hard for them we see the post game press conference as an example of how they handle themselves. Its embarrassing.

People want to get into the black vs white argument by default. Its more professional vs non professional.

It is not the same. Belichick handles himself the same regardless. He doesn't change the way he speaks to anyone regardless of winning or losing.

I can't believe its wrong these days to say that the more professional quarterback won. What a society we live in.

I've never had any problems calling out racism or noting when something is a race issue, but this is more that Newton is being an immature twat than the fact that he's black. If Peyton Manning had come out in 2009 or 2013 after his Super Bowl losses with a hoodie pulled around his head, looking like he had complete contempt for everyone in the room, and giving curt non-responses to questions during media availability, he'd rightfully be criticized roundly by the entire football establishment. Newton doesn't get a pass because he's darker. Hopefully he matures in the coming years, because he's a generational talent and fun as hell to watch.

Which one was worse? Newton not giving answers, or Manning telling us how much he loves Budweiser 3 times in a span of 15 minutes?

Was Newton really acting immature though? He literally just lost the super bowl. He should be devastated. How can you fault the guy for feeling in that moment.

Of course he could have handled the press conference with more grace, but at the end of the day who cares.
