Habs News & Notes: 2019 Offseason

Re: Post-Season Thread

Also curious about how his replacement would do any better.

Still have a hard time as well with that Shaw trade, those picks could have been useful to replenish the farm system.

2nd round picks are thrown away too liberally....obvious lotto tickets but the more you have, the greater the odds of finding a guy like Subban, Marchand, Bergeron, Lucic, Dubinsky, etc

Re: Post-Season Thread

still need 2 additions...Davidson/SFB and Emelin need replacing

Good point....

So let's review this:

We need 2 centers
We need 3-4 new dmen
We need better depth
We need prospects

That smells like a rebuild, no ?

Sergachev is one.

The other, I'm pretty sure we can find a third pair defenceman somewhere.

The concern has to be up front. specifically at centre.

sure...but we said that summer, and the one before that, and......

meanwhile Chuckie is still a prospect when it comes to playing a 200 ft game

Re: Post-Season Thread

Because his replacement will have a clean slate to tank and rebuild....just like Babcock/Lou sold it in TO

Babcock/Lou/Shanahan had no other options really. That was a bad team with no future. This team still has the illusion that they could be 2 players away although I bet this series was a rude awakening.
For once there is truly no excuses. We were healthy, and favorites, with a new coach, and failed miserably. Can't blame it on character again either. There was a clear lack of talent and strategy.

If Galchenyuk can't do it, then he should be packaged to get one. That would be the one scenario where I'd move him. Otherwise, I agree with you. Plunk him down at C and leave there, FFS.

Illusion....the key word

it's hard when those 2 players have to be as good as the best you already have

Re: Post-Season Thread

Let's cut the crap. Price is going nowhere. I do believe they have to show him significant change to retain him though.

exactly...they were lucky because the team had not made the playoffs in years...couldn't even pretend they were a lucky bounce away from winning

Do we really want to pay our goalie 9 mil going into a semi-rebuild.

Re: Post-Season Thread

sure...but we said that summer, and the one before that, and......

and our management focused on adding leaderbeans and fourth liners.

Bergevin believed the team had no leadership and character, so his big offseason move was trading one elite defenceman for another elite defenceman cause the new one had leaderbeans and character. (Not even getting into which one is better cause we've argued that to death and people know how I feel). that said, its undeniable that the move was more or less a lateral type.

Then he added Radulov, and that paid off. I shudder to think where the team would be without him. But still it wasn't enough skill.

Then his trade deadline was adding fourth liners with grit and leadership.

I'm tired of character, and leadership and grit and all the other narratives. Get some ****ing skill.
