OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Jays claim LHP Sam Moll ( what an unfortunate name) from Mariners and add him to 40 man which is now full.

Fairly certain now that Matt Dermody will be one of the casualties of the 40 man when Axford and Clippard are added to it

Speaking of which, for Espinosa to make it over Ngeope, would he need to be added to the 40 as well?

Yeah, this looks like the updated 40-man: http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/tor/roster/40-man/

So you need spots for whichever of Axford or Clippard make it. Plus Espinosa if you like him over the other IF options.

Alford being injured puts a major damper on my relative excitement for the start of the season.

I don't give a shit about Pearce, Granderson or Pillar - and I don't expect Grichuk to all of a sudden be an all-star.

Alford, Travis, Donaldson, Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna and Martin are the 7 guys that I am looking forward to this year. The rest is just whatever or gravy IMO.

Alford was always going to start in Buffalo this year. His AA numbers weren't good enough for him to just skip AAA.

He had an opportunity to push the junk out. He's close - and his current upside is wayyyyy higher than Pearce, Granderson, Pillar and Grichuk.

I kinda hate our outfield.

Pillar 2YR: 83wrc+, 2.8war650 / PROJ: 89wrc+, 2.8war650
Grandy 2YR: 110wrc+, 2.6war650 / PROJ: 107wrc+, 1.5war650
Grichuk 2YR: 98wrc+, 2.5war650 / PROJ: 102wrc+, 2.2war650
Pearce 2YR: 116wrc+, 2.0war650 / PROJ: 108wrc+, 1.5war650

Tbh, Alford would be hard pressed to beat any of those marks. And if any of those guys stumble and can't play at that level anymore, Alford will come up.

Based on his milb statistics so far, alford's projection: 77wrc+, 0.9war650

I guess...

Maybe I am just looking for potential shining light in a season that will likely not result in a playoff birth.

I think you underrate the Jays roster and or overrate the Angels, Mariners and Twins, they are probably the co-fave for the WC2 with LAA, who look like they have a bevy of issues.

You think they win 86 games yet looking for a light that will result in a playoff berth.

You clearly overrated the rest of the 2nd tier in the AL

FanGraphs has the Jays to win the second wildcard. However that's with Tulo getting over 500 PA's. The drop-off to Solarte/Diaz looks significant according to their numbers.

Most projections I see have us around 40% favorites to make the playoffs. Seems fair - a bit under a coin flip.

There is already talk how the decrease in attendance will mean that payroll will go down next season.

Funny enough though, it didn't go up because of the recent jump in attendance.
