2017-18 Miscellaneous News Thread

Lamoriello is already out in Toronto. The Leafs announced it last week. It was the end of his contract, which was supposed to be a quick corrective fix for their front office culture, which had gotten weird. He rebuilt the scouting staff, built a new management structure and took off at the end of his deal. I've seen a couple of comments suggesting that he's going to consult with the Isles rather than take a more formal role, but who knows? His son is already working for them, FWIW, and with Garth Snow having been left to run that franchise his own for FAR too long, it ain't like they could use the help or anything.

He was far from out in Toronto, just changed from the GM role...he as of last week was all about staying on board in Toronto as part of the plan that he and Shanahan had talked about from the start.

Cool ... out as GM, as per his contract. Missed that detail.

With the Colorado Eagles entering the AHL as an affiliate of the Avs, the league has re-aligned again.

The Atlantic Division, where the Checkers play, is unaffected.

The North Division, which had 7 teams this year, adds the Cleveland Monsters (Columbus) from the Central Division.

The Central Division also had 7 teams. Cleveland leaves, San Antonio (St. Louis) and Texas (Dallas) move from the Pacific Division to create an 8 team division.

The Pacific Division had 8, now becomes the 7 team division, losing the 2 Texas teams and adding Colorado.

The AHL is as bad as the USL when it comes to constant realignment.

We have the lottery and 2 cherokee casinos . A sports book might take away lottery money. They could allow the cherokees to have sports books that's about as far as they would go. Virginia is more likely to allow sports books.

Certainly not with the current legislative leadership.

The legislation has already been introduced...

Republicans Tim Moore (house speaker) and Phil Berger (senate president) both want it and Democrat Dan Blue (senate minority leader) is a co-sponsor of the bill. The only question is whether Democrat Darren Jackson (house minority leader) and his caucus will try to stop it. The general feeling is that this--perhaps in a modified form--will likely make it to Governor Cooper's desk.

In Canada, we have had the Sports Select government run lottery style sports betting for years and years, it's harmless and is a cash cow for provincial governments. The parlay style game certainly is not as favorable as the over-round 110% that most bookmakers maintain and most gamblers in Canada say the odds need to be changed. It's more of a recreational style sports betting game but still allows you to throw some money daily or weekly on your favorite teams or game matchups. I use to really enjoy it as a fun way to throw a few bucks down over a regular lottery ticket.

How can the Dems stop it? They have basically zero power now. Maybe next year they could actually stop a few things. The only way I see the Dems stopping it is if there are enough GOP members who vote no based on religion and they need Dem votes to pass it and the Dems all vote no.

NCAA will OK it if no money goes to the players

Panthers will sell for $2.2 Billion. Buffalo sold for $1.4 Billion 4 years ago.

I read somewhere that this guy is buying 100% of the team, no co-owners.

He's worth $11 billion. On Golic and Wingo this morning, they said it was a 100% cash offer. Even though he wasn't the highest bidder, the all cash offer and what should be a quick approval since he was already vetted, probably swung the deal his way.
