The Will Nye Contract Dispute thread

@puckdontlie

You know what this “send us your offers” news tells me? The Leafs are going to get Nylander signed this week.

He makes a good point. This could be a shot across the bow of Willys camp to let's get this done

@CMhockey66

Draisaitl's deal gets cited for throwing off Nylanders, but I have Willy's closest age 21 comp as Jordan Eberle, who signed for $6 million AAV deal back in 13-14, which is about equivalent to $7.4 million now. I wonder if this deal is something Nylanders camp could be citing too

I'm a bit surprised that people see these deals Edmonton signed and dont figure in the Edmonton premium. Getting anyone to stay in Edmonton is going to cost more.

If the leafs do trade willy, I think it will be bigger than a one for one deal.
I wonder if we would see a gardiner or zaitsev being a piece that goes the other way too in something larger.

True enough but Leon has way more importance in that organization than Willy has here .

Oilers overpaying all their young players have hurt other teams with their RFAs. They won so many lotteries, wasn't that enough?

I tend to agree. Most when talking about this envision a 1 for 1 Nylander for some defenceman or another. Dubas might well see that, if it comes to having to deal Willy, maybe he can turn it into an opportunity to address another weakness. eg also getting a good young goalie or goalie prospect back in the deal, or a young centre to add to the system, etc.

Adding other pieces to the deal is fine, as long as it doesn't turn into a "quantity for quality" type of deal for the other team.

If there isn't a singular piece coming back in the deal that matches Nylander's high-end talent and is around the same age as Willy, then you can't make the deal.

Willy can get some endorsement money and other channels of income steams in TO .

Life isnt so bad for a 22 year old pretty boy trying to make ends meet here on a 6 mil salary + extras.

STFU Willy and sign a deal and start getting paid .

Bobo downplayed Freidman's report on the radio. He essentially said, sure Dubas is listing, because he has to, but his intent is to resign Willy.

Also yes, Hamilton is awesome and exactly what we need. Only thing down this year is his offense.

Hamilton is one of the few I'd be pretty pumped about if we got him in return for willy.

Rielly-dougie would be an elite top pair for the next decade.

Hard to believe Hamilton is only 25. He's been in the league for quite some time already.

Iguanas like Simmons would be on Hamilton because he's an introvert, but the team can just shelter him.
Would love to have him on the Leafs though. Signed for under what Nylander would want and we can keep him as we'll likely have had one deep run by then.

I scratch my head at some of the comments that come from the professionals in the NHL

"Johnny Tavares, as good as he is, might be the reason the Leafs can't keep those guys. And I'm not blaming Johnny." —Anton Thun, player agent

"Last spring was the time to sign the Leafs young core" - Mark Hunter
