OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

I have no idea about who these players are we're getting, but it doesn't sound great that we gave up our top two picks next year just to get rid of a guy with two years left on his deal who was still able to contribute.

On what planet was Demarre Carroll still able to contribute?

I have no idea who CJ Miles even is, but their stats don't seem that different than each other.

But in any event, was it worth surrendering our two best picks? For me it's like if the Leafs last offseason had traded this year's 1st and 2nd to get rid of Lupul. It seems insane in that context, but no idea here.

Miles is a 3 pt shooter that can defend so that fills a need.

Carrol they just needed to dump to bring back Lowry and Ibaka.

No

What was my opinion on the trade, exactly? Do tell. Since I made it pretty clear that I'm asking a question rather than voicing an opinion.

I really don't get why there is such an overriding desire by some of you to be jerkoffs.

This is not asking a question.

In fact none of it is

When I say it seems insane in that context, but no idea here, that doesn't signify that I'm not making any judgment here?

And that immediately follows the question in the immediately preceding sentence.

"None of it is." For **** sake.

With Delon Wright ready for more minutes and the Raptors pretty badly needing someone who can legitimately stretch a defence, this is a really solid move. Carroll and PPat couldn't do it and we've needed it. Only gripe is that Miles isn't really a starter and that's likely what is going to be expected of him here. Dude can score though,

Pretty close to cap neutral as well with the rumour being 3/25 as the "sign" part of the sign and trade.

I'd like to think Powell sees enough minutes at SF to make sure Miles isnt overused.

My question is that if they view Ibaka as a C, then they seem to be very C heavy with Serge/Val/BeBe and weak at PF with Poetl/Siakam.

I tend to think there is one last shoe to drop

The Raptors and Pacers have made the Cory Joseph trade official. Receive the draft rights to Emir Preldzic!

With Joseph traded into Pacers cap space, CJ Miles signs mid-level exception. Raptors have a roughly $8-million trade exception to use.

Toronto will now have a $7.8M and $11.8M trade exception. Will be challenged to use based on hard cap restrictions.

Miles is decent. Doesn't move the needle much. We really haven't gotten better this offseason. For how shit Carroll has been here he could end up having a better year next year than Miles.

I liked Cojo as a backup with the inevitable midseason injury/slowdown to Lowry. Delon deserves a fair shot so i'm ok with this swap.

This is the definition of treading water. The Raps will be an entertaining team next season to the tune of 45-50ish wins. Not much could be done at this point to really give this team that boost they need to compete with GS and Cavs. Not even sure a piece like that would be available.

One Lebron injury away from a potential finals trip though.

I think Miles and another year of development makes them better. Also, don't be shocked if simply not having Carroll and PPat forces Casey into player usage that makes us better by default. Norm's length allows him to guard some small forwards in today's NBA and I wouldn't be remotely shocked if more Siakam, more Norm and Miles's shooting gives us a huge upgrade at the 3 overall.

Basically, I think Casey's insistence on playing "the veterans" who were complete black holes offensively actually hurt the team last year. It's not like he was playing Carroll and PPat in defensive specialist type minutes and situations. They were playing 6th-7th man type minutes, and getting the same type of FGA as Val and Norm were getting. Moving them out and letting the best of the kids fill those roles and take those shots improves us.

The kids are also loooong. Norm has a freak wingspan (6'11 I think, for a 6'4 guard), Siakim has a 7'3 wing span, Delon has a freak wingspan for a PG, Bebe is Bebe. They can all get after it defensively to replace what we're supposed to be losing from the veteran exits and bring more skill offensively.

Cojo is a huge loss , team played great when he was the lead guard with Lowry out . Wright has talent but if KL has a long injury not sure he can do what he lost full time .
