Devon Staples had been drinking with his friends to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday on Saturday at a house in Calais, Maine.

Don't look now, there's another serious contender:

Orange County Police were called to Burkart's Marina near the Louisiana state line early Friday morning after reports that Tommie Woodward, 28, and an unidentified woman were swimming in a bayou and had been attacked by a large alligator.

Woodward's body was found several hours later. The woman was not injured.

Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price told CNN affiliate KFDM that Woodward ignored verbal warnings and a posted "No Swimming Alligators" sign and seemed to mock the deadly creatures before going in the water.

"He removed his shirt, removed his billfold ... someone shouted a warning and he said 'F*CK the alligators' and jumped in to the water and almost immediately yelled for help," Price said.

"Please do not go swimming, there's a bigger alligator out here. Just please stay out of the water," witness and marina employee Michelle Wright said she told Woodward.

She said the next thing she heard was the woman screaming, "An alligator's got him." Wright said she used a flashlight in the darkness to scan the water.

Major anti-abortion protests are going on in Kingston right now, people are carrying graphic photos while they protest. Cops were called in and after consulting with the crown attorney, they decided that no crime was being committed and that it was within people's rights to protest and freedom of speech.

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/07/07/china-stock-market-crash_n_7747180.html?utm_hp_ref=canada

As the Greek debt drama plays itself out one 60-euro withdrawal at a time, some economic observers are saying the world is paying attention to the wrong crisis.

That's because in the space of three weeks, China’s Shanghai Composite stock index has lost nearly 30 per cent of its value, wiping out some $2.3 trillion U.S. in wealth. As Bloomberg News put it, that’s a loss of $1 billion for every minute of trading. Regulators have halted trading in more than 700 listed companies, and at least two dozen IPOs have been cancelled.

And some economists fear the country’s response to the downturn could be worse than the stock market crash itself.

“China could well be setting the stage for another financial time bomb to match its local government debt and real estate bubbles,” said Sherry Cooper, the former chief economist at the Bank of Montreal, in a note issued Tuesday.

She described the Greek crisis as a “sideshow” to the real drama unfolding in China. “China has more than 120 times the population of Greece and is the second largest economy in the world, dominating demand for natural resources,” writes Cooper, who is now chief economist at Dominion Lending Centres.

It’s that demand for natural resources that makes China very important to Canada’s economy, even if the two countries’ trade relationship isn’t that large. By largely determining demand for natural resources, China effectively sets the prices Canada gets for its resources on global markets.

And China’s crash is already having an impact on Canada, Cooper said in an email to HuffPost.

“It has already led to lower commodity prices and therefore further damaged the resource sector of our stock market,” she said. “Today's very weak trade figures reflect the slowdown in energy exports. Not good news for the Canadian economy.”

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Jared Fogle's weight-loss story made him a celebrity, but his career may be forever damaged after police searched the Subway spokesman's home two months after an associate's arrest on child pornography charges.
The FBI, Indiana State Police and U.S. Postal Service on Tuesday grabbed documents, electronics and other items from Fogle's Zionsville home. From early morning through early evening officials streamed back and forth between the house and a large evidence truck parked in the driveway.
Authorities would not comment on the nature of the investigation.
Fogle is assisting investigators, his attorney said.
Subway. Eat fresh. REALLY fresh.

Pope Francis has rebuked his host Evo Morales, the Bolivian president, after the left-wing South American leader presented him with a crucifix mounted on a hammer and sickle – the international symbol of the avowedly atheist creed of communism.

The disapproving look on the pontiff’s face made abundantly clear that he was not impressed by the provocative greeting gift handed to him Mr Morales when he paid a courtesy call after arriving in the country.

“That’s not right,” the Pope noted. The slight was all the more notable as the Argentine pontiff praised the social and economic reforms of Mr Morales when he arrived from Ecuador on the second leg of a three-country tour of his native South America.
Damn Commies. Always a threat. lol.
Organized religions, especially the Catholics, are a bigger threat than Communism ever was. Let's all go to church now and be told how to live our lives, because they have all the answers.

The Chatham Daily News visited the Wheatley company Friday, the day after it learned a $40-million contract to build a new ferry to serve Pelee Island was awarded to a Chilean shipbuilding company.

Hike Metal couldn't bid on the project, tendered by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, because it didn't qualify, despite having more than 50 years’ experience building vessels.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation announced Thursday that ASENAV, from Valdivia, Chile will build a new 399-person ferry that will also be capable of transporting either 34 cars or 16 cars and four tractor-trailers.

WHEATLEY - Patience and persistence has paid off for a local shipbuilder here that has landed a $43.4 million contract to build six search and rescue vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard.

“This is quite an auspicious occasion for Hike Metal Products and the history of our life,” said company president Andy Stanton, during a press conference Thursday inside the Wheatley facility.

In announcing the contract on behalf of the federal government, Chatham-Kent Essex MP Dave Van Kesteren said Hike Metal has been awarded the first contract under the National Shipbuilding Strategy's Small Vessels Program.

The deal includes an option for the federal government to order another four vessels from the shipbuilder.

Great move, again, Ms. Wynne.

T-mobile users will now be able to text, make calls and browse the Internet in Mexico and Canada without paying any extra charges. According to T-Mobile Inc., this will help people who travel to Mexico or Canada will be able to save a lot of money. This is a significant change because much of the international travel done by Americans is within the United States.

In the past, T-mobile charged 20 cents per minute for calls that were made in Canada and Mexico. It was already free for T-mobile customers to text within Canada and Mexico. It was free for users to use data, but they could only use it at slower 2G speeds. This is a fast enough connection for people who just want to check their email, but it is slow for people who want to surf the Internet.

Previously, if t-mobile users wanted to call from the United States to Mexico, then they would have to pay 69 cents per call. People who called from the United States to Canada would have to pay 49 cents per call. There is no charge for T-mobile users to take advantage of this new plan. It is available to all users, including those who have a pre-paid or pay as you go plan.
Funny how our big three can't offer anything like this. We need the borders opened up to bring some REAL providers and services up here.

Canadians have been getting the high hard one on cell / data charges forever.

I have a T-Mobile sim card, and in Europe I can get unlimited roaming data (2G speed mind you) almost everywhere for $80 USD a month. Certainly good enough to check emails and facebook or whatever.

The Bell roaming packages are brutal.

It's far better value to buy a local SIM for $10 - 20 Euros and get your 1-5 GB of 3G / LTE data per month.

It's really not even close to competitive.

If it was even in the same ballpark as T-Mobile, I would have gone for it, but I'm with Bell, and they are totally useless.

I can't believe they've been allowed to get away with the bullshit they've been pulling forever.

Anyone else ever get a quote for a Yellow Pages ad before they went extinct?

It's truly unbelievable.

I was using a Telcel sim card in my S5 (just had to pay Bell the 50 bucks to unlock the phone) while in Mexico this winter and for using it normally, the way I would have at home (apps, calling, texts, etc) was costing me about 300 pesos worth of prepaid cards (~23 buck), while getting way more data than as Johnny has just shown us, Bell provides in Mexico for 75 bucks.

Whenever I go to the states I use roam mobility, 4 bucks a day gets me unlimited phone and 400mb per day. The data is pretty sweet as your data quota grows with each day you're on the network, so for a 3 day weekend you get 1.2 gigs that can be used at any time.

Back in late May when I was in Bermuda I got a SIM card for cellone and a 1.5 gig data package for less than $50.

Buying my phone outright and not dealing with bell subsidies was one of the better low level financial decisions I've made in a long while.

Exactly. Don't even bother keeping the "home" SIM in your phone, lest you be gouged huge by the big three.

A far better plan. If you don't have a brand preference, you can get a no-name Chinese touchscreen phone running Android that can hold four or six SIM cards. Same phone. Same contacts. Same apps. Just reboot and select your SIM.

Chicago rapper Capo, a member of Chief Keef's "Glo Gang," has died in a gang-related shooting over the weekend that also resulted in the death of a baby boy who was struck by a vehicle fleeing the scene, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Sunday.

The death of Marvin Carr, who went by the name Capo, was confirmed by the group's manager, Renaldo Hess, according to the newspaper. Hess could not be reached for comment.

Chicago police confirmed on Sunday that a 22-year-old gang member who was shot in the hip and the back on the city's south side on Saturday afternoon had died, but could not provide his name. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not yet confirmed the death as of Sunday afternoon.
Are there any RAP "artists" who are not gang members?
And what the hell is mom doing leaving her baby in a stroller while waiting for the bus? Pull the stroller with you.
