New York Yankees (2010-2013)

Re: New York Yankees

Not a whole lot jumps out from that list. But im sure we haven't seen the last of the invites. And your right, could defiantly see them bringing in a veteran pitcher to add a little extra competition for that 5th spot. Still think its Nova's to lose.

Can't wait to see what Pineada brings to the team this year

Re: New York Yankees

No one really jumps out as players who could make an impact out of Spring Training, but not many non-roster invites ever do.

The most obvious names with a chance to make the big-league roster are Diaz, Johnson, Nix, Rivera and Wilson.

The prospect buzz will come from Sanchez, Heathcott and Austin — can't wait to see them.

And watch out for Montgomery, who is being compared to Robertson and will likely make it to the Bronx at some point this season.

Me neither... hopefully he gets back at 100% and shows the world why Cashman traded such a highly-touted player in Montero for him.

Hope the big righty is a force in our rotation for a long time.

Montgomery, Ive heard very good things about. Looking forward to see him, and yes Austin and Heathcott Ive been high on for awhile now, would like to see what they can do.

You and me both, Would be nice to have a young stud pitcher at the front of the rotation for a change.

Buster_ESPN: Travis Hafner picked the Yankees over the Tampa Bay Rays, in choosing his next club.

The deal is for about $2 million, but hasn't officially been announced.

The Yankees have agreed to terms with DH Travis Hafner on a one-year, $2 million plus incentives deal.

To make room on the roster, OF Russ Canzler has been designated for assignment.

The man they call Pronk could be a good signing if he stays healthy, but that's the key — he's only played 95+ games once in the past five years (2010).
Wouldn't be a terrible loss, but hopefully Canzler gets through waivers.

Re: New York Yankees

Hafner's upside like we said out ways the down side, if he doesn't pan out still gives us a slot to DH players like Jeter, Cano, Youk and Tex. But if he does stay healthy he defiantly will help make up for the production we lost in Swish.

JimBowdenESPNxm: 15 years ago today... Brian Cashman was named GM of the New York Yankees.

Re: New York Yankees

According to Cashman (via radio interview), the Yankees continue to seek a right-handed hitting outfielder.

Don't think there's much available though.

Re: New York Yankees

More on this from Chad Jennings: Speaking on Jim Bowden's radio show, Brian Cashman said he's still looking for a right-handed outfielder. When the Yankees signed Juan Rivera to a minor-league contract last week, they basically took the best remaining free agent option off the market, so I have to think Cashman is referring to a potential trade.

Hmm...

Wow 15 years.. Seems like just yesterday, of course I was 14 when it happened but I do remember it

There isn't, I expect this will be a search that will last through the Spring to see who gets cut etc.

Re: New York Yankees

Keith Law unveiled his Top 100 Prospects list.

Yankees:
18. Gary Sanchez - C
35. Mason Williams - OF
52. Tyler Austin - OF
57. Slade Heathcott - OF

RHP Jose Ramirez made Law's 10 prospects who just missed list.

_____

He also unveiled the each team in the American League's Top 10 lists.

Yankees Top-10:
1. Gary Sanchez - C
2. Mason Williams - OF
3. Tyler Austin - OF
4. Slade Heathcott - OF
5. Jose Ramirez - RHP
6. Ty Hensley - RHP
7. Manny Banuelos - LHP
8. Jose Campos - RHP
9. Mark Montgomery - RHP
10. Angelo Gumbs - 2B

Organizational rank: 10th.

Farm system overview: The Yankees' system is top-heavy, with several elite prospects but not a ton of depth, led by the group of position players who started in low Class Charleston last year that could produce as many as three above-average or better regulars plus several other guys who'll have big-league value. The loss of Jose Campos for most of 2012 and for Manny Banuelos until 2014 hurts their pitching depth significantly, although the oft-injured Jose Ramirez was extremely effective when healthy this year.

2013 impact: None of that elite group is likely to see the majors this year, so any impact would have to come from relievers like Mark Montgomery, whose 55-grade slider plays up to a 65-70 because hitters don't see it, and the fallen prospect Dellin Betances, who showed some signs of life as a one-inning reliever in the Arizona Fall League, airing it out and working around the zone a lot more than he can as a starter.

Sleeper: Their first-rounder in 2012, Ty Hensley, had a chance to go in the top 10, but was a casualty of the Pirates' last-minute decision to take Mark Appel; Hensley's physical revealed an abnormality in his shoulder that has never prevented him from reaching 98 mph, and if he can just show that kind of stuff and last for a 120-140 inning season in 2013, he's a likely top-100 guy. Yankees folks still love outfielder Ben Gamel's chance to hit and to show more power this year after adding some weight in his offseason conditioning

Via Wallace Matthews: according to Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees are already talking extension with Robinson Cano. (LINK)

This is a change from the team's normal policy but shows they know they need to keep their best player.

Re: New York Yankees

I wonder if Drew Stubbs becomes a possible target for the Yankees now that Michael Bourn has signed with the Indians.

Mike Axisa's argument: Stubbs hit .283/.324/.464 vs. LHP in 2012, plays defense, steals bases. Will make $2.8M in 2013. Better than Diaz, Rivera, misc. crap.
