OT: Politics & News... Have at it.

Maybe he prefers to stay in hotels when he's in Montreal.

I always just figured that he would have inherited his father's house on Pine Avenue.

If all the Harperites can complain about is Trudeau saying he can't afford a house. I swear the right wing Harperites will pick at the smallest minutiae.

Harper’s real target with Islamic State mission is Trudeau, say experts

News of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s plan to table a motion to extend and expand the anti-Islamic State mission had leaked far and wide long before he stood up in the House of Commons to start the debate today. So the only real surprise for a lot of observers came from across the aisle — from Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

The Liberals voted against the initial mission to push back IS in Iraq back in October. But with several polls indicating broad support for the mission, many predicted Trudeau would reverse course and back the extension. Instead, Trudeau accused the prime minister of “failing to clearly (articulate) the mission’s objectives” and said the Liberal caucus could not support deepening Canadian involvement by expanding the bombing campaign to Syrian territory — where accused war criminal President Bashar al-Assad is fighting a bloody and interminable civil war.

“We cannot support a mission that could very well result in Assad consolidating his grip on power in Syria,” said Trudeau.

One expert in genocide and war said the government motion neatly manoeuvred Trudeau into repudiating his own party’s foreign policy legacy.
“The strange thing is that if the Liberals were in power, they would be doing this. Maybe not Syria, but they’d certainly be doing Iraq. Because that’s what the Liberals have always done.”

For Matthews, that’s part of the larger problem. He said that the opposition parties are being too narrow-minded when they frame the mission from a combat perspective alone, neglecting to acknowledge Canada’s international legal obligation to prevent genocide.

“The Vatican has come out saying there’s genocide against Christians. The UN came out last week and said that ISIS is trying to commit genocide against the Yazidis. U.S. air power has prevented ISIS from committing that genocide but the Liberals who helped bring about R2P aren’t even mentioning it, and the NDP won’t even mention that a genocide is taking place,” said Matthews.

“Harper is kind of right in that there is a humanitarian imperative here, and not just ‘Harper’s war’.”

Water is wet.

Everything Harper does is to try and create a wedge issue. He doesn't really care that the Liberals might have been for it in the past and against it now. All he cares about is that he can now say they are soft on terror and weak on crime. He will play on people's fears of the muslim bogey man who wants to shoot him/her while they try on shoes at Aldo or Brown's. It is like before where they said either you were with the molesters or against them.

They are playing to their base to try and shore it up.

Harper also knows that his blanket support for Israel which some say committed war crimes in Gaza will not be attacked by Trudeau because there would be the normal claims of anti-Semitism leveled at the Liberals.

Harper is no more a humanitarian than anyone because if he was, he would support a two state solution and have criticized what appeared to be an overreaction in Gaza and southern Lebanon a few years previously. This is all about making Trudeau and the Liberals out to be soft on terror and soft on crime. It is Republican Politics 101.

I don't suppose you've noticed how your teenager sounds a lot like the Bozo down south either.

commie politics 101, David. You guys aren't even liberals anymore.

JT is so lucky that P.E.T. was his dad. He just sounds dumb, like really dumb. Probably a C student at best.

Like Bush was...

Besides, I can't see the Torries losing next election....other countries will mock us to no end if Justin is our leader. Already nobody takes Canada that seriously...
