OT: American Politics

Absolutely not, Korean talks are just an example of limited or no coverage of issues other than 27-7 rehashing of the Trump's problems. Trump's legal and personality problems are important but surely there are other news issues.

Yeah, I have to echo PSP here. There's a ton of coverage on everything US government related. My news aggregator is jammed to the tippy top with US news right now (and I try to get a balance of international news). US marijuana, Trump's various lawsuits, All other things Trump (Comey, etc), Syria airstrikes, North Korea talks, Turkey looking into dropping the US dollar, more analysis on Facebook and it's danger to democracies...are all pretty major stories I'm seeing covered by multiple outlets.

If you're still getting news from TV in 2018, you're doing it wrong imo.

It just might be easier to take if newscasters and commentators didn't show such glee over each new and old revelation.

Yeah, it would be nice if US news wasn't as heavily biased as it's become, but frankly Fox becoming a defacto RNC propaganda outlet (and then riding that to becoming the biggest news outlet in the country) changed the game down there.

The answer is to get away from them and broaden your intake.

The positive actions coming out of North Korea smell way too fishy as well...
KJU has been the aggressor his whole life, and all.of a sudden, he chooses to.tell people that "we no longer need to test our weapons ". Trump still is talking about meeting etc...all in the middle of the shit storm.

My take....KJU is getting all his nukes from mother Russia and Putin is basically telling him to play nice to the US for a bit to keep some positive news for the dotard.

KJU only had a limited amount of cash reserves in NK after taking power.

He blew through it all rushing his nuclear program and missile tests. The increased sanctions didn't help.

Now he's effectively broke. He needs the sanctions to go away. So now its the charm offensive.

Choi estimates that North Korea’s foreign currency reserves are only about $4 billion to $5 billion, compared with the South’s $395 billion. While measures of Pyongyang’s reserves are sketchy, its dollar holdings could dry up by around October if international sanctions continue, Kang Seok-ho, the chairman of South Korea’s parliamentary intelligence committee, said last month.

the nukes were always a means to an end.

the question is - what are we giving up for them to "stop" the nuclear program they never planned to actually use, anyways?

a certain segment freaked out about a very good nuclear dear with Iran - i imagine those same people will be fully supoorting the NK deal no matter what it ends up being.

I think the talks will go nowhere. Nukes are a necessary part of the Jong-Il "the whole world is against us" narrative.

Giving up nukes for more economic integration with the West would be great for NK citizens (and I hope it happens) but once the people find out the rest of the world hasn't been starving for the last 50 yrs, they will want Jong-Il's head on a platter.

He's not giving up the nukes

He's going to try to loosen sanctions in order to raise more cash in order to continue making nukes.

Oh look, another shooting by a white dude in 'Murica.

WTF?

If you don’t want racists around maybe you shouldn’t be one yourself. I can just imagine your faux outrage if someone posted “oh look, another shooting by a black dude in Chicago”.

Some of you guys have fallen off the deep end.

Speaking of faux outrage...

I'm sure the guy will be branded a lunatic with mental health concerns and everybody will continue to ignore guns and the perception that only "uppity" characters and Muslims commit crimes in the United States.

The fact that this isn't even a big story tells you how far off a cliff America has gone.

Community members had opposed the rally in Newnan and came out to embrace racial unity in the small Georgia town. Fearing a repeat of the violence that broke out after Charlottesville, hundreds of police officers were stationed in the town during the rally in an attempt to keep the anti racist protesters and neo-Nazi groups separated Spencer Platt - Getty Images
