These people were in their church praying when this happened. They do not need any fake “pray for the victims” bull shit from Republicans and the like. What they need is gun control.

Be genuine, it's not. Sports are. Of course you'll find many that think firing guns is a sport.

So let's have an honest gun control discussion. Were you to live in the States, what would you want to see? Keep in mind that the American mindset caries greatly from region to region. What would you think is a fair compromise?

And yet I'm talking about gun control. Weird.

Feel free to participate if you like. It would be nice if you left your preconceived notions at home though.

AUSTIN -- The 26-year-old New Braunfels man accused in a Sunday shooting at a South Texas church that left at 26 parishoners dead did not have a state license to carry a concealed handgun, officials confirmed Monday.

Even so, Texas Department of Public Safety and other state officials said that under the state's handgun-license law, Devin Patrick Kelley would not have needed one to possess the Ruger AR-556 semi-automatic assault rifle reportedly used in the shooting.

Naw, it's a major part of the problem. Allowing people with serious mental instability to obtain firearms? Most definitely a problem. There is nothing wrong at hitting that problem from both ends.

It's an excuse because there is no easy solution to mental illness. And America has no unique claim to extreme mental illness issues.

Chucking hands up in the air and saying "dude was nuts" is just a way of not dealing with the issue.

What's even worse is that the people in power who knee-jerk the "mental illness" excuse are also actively fighting to lessen gun license screening AND lessen access to mental healthcare.

    "Under the state's handgun-license law".

    Handgun:

Rifles fall under hand-gun laws in TX.

The .556 NATO is high velocity round capable. Equivalent to the .223 US.

That's one state you will have an extremely hard time getting to pass licensing restriction laws.

With all due respect, seriously, there is no easy solution period. If you think it's as simple as outlawing guns then you're not being realistic. Stop comparing the US to any other country, it's just not the same where guns are concerned.

Nothing will get better until one side realizes you aren't getting the guns and the other realizes a great many people shouldn't have the guns. That's where the middle ground is.

    flashback Feb 28: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...mental-n727221

President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database.

Had the rule fully taken effect, the Obama administration predicted it would have added about 75,000 names to that database.

President Barack Obama recommended the now-nullified regulation in a 2013 memo following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 first graders and six others dead. The measure sought to block some people with severe mental health problems from buying guns.

The original rule was hotly contested by gun rights advocates who said it infringed on Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Gun control advocates, however, praised the rule for curbing the availability of firearms to those who may not use them with the right intentions.

Both the House and Senate last week passed the new bill, H.J. Res 40, revoking the Obama-era regulation.

Trump signed the bill into law without a photo op or fanfare. The president welcomed cameras into the oval office Tuesday for the signing of other executive orders and bills. News that the president signed the bill was tucked at the bottom of a White House email alerting press to other legislation signed by the president.

The National Rifle Association “applauded” Trump’s action. Chris Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, said the move “marks a new era for law-abiding gun owners, as we now have a president who respects and supports our arms.”

Everytown For Gun Safety President John Feinblatt said he expected more gun control rollbacks from the Trump administration. In a statement to NBC News, he called the action "just the first item on the gun lobby’s wish list" and accused the National Rifle Association of "pushing more guns, for more people, in more places."

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a leading gun control advocate in Congress, called out Republicans over the move.

"Republicans always say we don’t need new gun laws, we just need to enforce the laws already on the books. But the bill signed into law today undermines enforcement of existing laws that Congress passed to make sure the background check system had complete information," he said in an emailed statement

I love how gun enthusiasts always bring up gun bans as if that is a proposal that has ever been tabled by people who support gun control. The reason why this issue is never adequately addressed is because the gun nuts refuse to even come to the table. Actually its more sinister than that, they donate billions of dollars to ensure that reasonable gun laws it can't be discussed.
