OT: American Politics

Scott Wong @scottwongDC
Why are some Trump allies arguing that POTUS said "shithouse" rather than "shithole"? Some Rs say "shithouse countries" refers to poor countries w/no plumbing -- places where u have to walk out to the shithouse -- and therefore the phrase is NOT racist.

As the gop tries to #bothsides this issue and lay the blame on the democrats on the upcoming government shutdown over daca, a few points to remember:

1.Senate GOP filibustered dem DACA legislation in 2010.
2.Bipartisan DACA legislation passed the senate easily in 2013, but House GOP blockaded it and didn't even allow a floor vote on the bill.
3.Trump's famous "open meeting" on tv the other week included him promising to sign anything that they sent him even if he didn't like it. Well, they sent him something, and he didn't sign it.
4.This will be the first time maybe ever that the government gets shutdown when one party holds the white house, senate, and house all at the same time. i.e. the gop is so fractured that they need dem votes to pass this, but refuse to offer the dems anything for those votes.

On the topic of hard-working "good" Norwegian immigrants:

In 2016, 93 Norwegians were naturalized in the US.
28 of the 93 were over 65 years old.
Of the 93, 15 were retired and 10 were unemployed.
31 were listed as "No occupation/not working outside home"

David Nakamura @DavidNakamura
Sen. Leahy on Trump's immigration preferences: "Norway is a predominantly white country, isn't it?"
DHS Sec. Nielsen: "I actually don't know that, sir."

Daniel Dale @ddale8
To defend the president, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security just said under oath that she does not know if Norway is predominantly white.

This administration is literally like a 50/50 combination of a banana republic and The Onion.

One thing he (and the press) fails to mentions is that investors and speculators have been relentlessly pushing prices up everywhere (China, Europe, India, etc) and in almost every asset class (stocks, metals, crypto). Surely, not the work of one nation's tax/deregulatory policy.

Even the Greek stock market is up 20% in 2 months.

also 1000 moves are easier the higher you go. ROI and performance are measured in terms of percentages

Yes, but they're all white.

Yeah we're going to disagree here. Yes the GOP could extend to March but taking the stance that, as a Democrat, you won't vote to fund the government unless DACA is done is not the message to send most Americans. The GOP will be able to spin this in battleground states.

Bannon had agreed to testify voluntarily to House Intelligence Committee. But an abrupt pause today in his closed-door interview indicates ground rules might be changing, amid news of Mueller subpoenaing him. A committee subpoena being worked up, too?

Chad Pergram @ChadPergram
Sources say Bannon told by WH not to answer questions before House Intel Cmte about the White House and the transition. Did not assert executive privilege. Committee subpoenas him during the meeting to comply while in the hearing.

(FYI - "Bannon told by WH not to answer questions before House Intel Cmte" = obstruction)

So Bannon was testifying (closed doors) before the Nunes' House Committee. Told not to say anything by the White House. But he doesn't exercise executive privilege (so far) during the meeting.

Then news breaks that Mueller subpoenaed him to testify before a grandjury.

So then Nunes supoenas him in the middle of the meeting, so he can hear what Bannon will have to spill to Mueller.

Nunes is nothing but a mole. period.

Yep

Nunes has been blocking requests to subpoena records from Deutche Bank as well. The only bank he's allowed subpoenas for is the bank Fusion uses.
