OT: MLB Thread

Well boys and girls, it's that time of year when I get misty eyed thinking about the start of another baseball season without nos amours. A little harder this year with all the memories rekindled when Gary Carter died.

As Krusty mentions in another thread, the economics of baseball are too rich for us at this point so there is no real hope of a return of our beloved team in the short or medium term. However, I never say never and maybe one day before I die, I will be able to cheer the boys of summer once again in our own backyard.

Until then, play ball.

As much as I hate the Leafs and everything they stand for, I find myself cheering for the Jays. They're certainly a team who seems to be building in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see if they can actually stay competitive this year or if they still need a bit more time to fight the big boys.

Isn't baseball that sport that kills time between the end of the Stanley Cup Finals and NHL training camps?

Looking forward to the Jays this season. Will also be going to Vegas to watch the minor league team (51s).

A lot of media guys are really high on the Rays, but I'd still pick the Yankees to win the AL East.

I still love the fact then Giants won the ring just after Bonds retired. It's fantastic.

The Rays have the best starting staff from top to bottom in the Majors. That alone will make them a contender. The Jays may have chance to sneak into 3rd if Boston falls a bit (the Yankees are still at the very least a second place team in the AL East).

All in all, even with this nice Spring by the Jays odds are they finish 4th again this year.
