Seems like a lot, but he is one of very few guys I think have the potential to make it a bargain if he continues to develop. I would also expect that this isn't a problem should they decide to trade him - at least not until after next season when he completely tanks like all the other members in the Canes Country Club. Faulk and Sekera are solid enough to be 2 of your first 3. If we add a stud number one guy, then Murphy is fine in our mix. If we're overslotted by half a D, then it gets hard to find a spot for him. I'd like to see:
Newbie D1 - Faulk
Sekera - Murphy or Hainsey
Hainsey or Murphy - Liles or Belimore
I'd like to not have Liles in there, but don't think he's going to be easy to move. We don't need 2 more guys if we get the number 1 guy who get's us slotted right.
I also think outside of Liles all of the rest of our D are movable with the contracts they have, so if we need to adjust to get a certain shot, or to add more size etc, we have assets that are priced right to allow that kind of movement.
Really, the only boat anchor contract we still have is Liles and maybe Cam, if you don't count what we're paying for guys who don't play for us anymore.
I'd trade Liles for a bigger nastier overpaid D since we don't need the overpaid PMD. Then hope Cam rounds into tradeable form the rest of this season. Pair that with trading 12 for a comparable asset with a more physical game and the rest of what you need are tweaks to your bottom 6.
In the draft, they better go for size and stop the trend of talented shrimps. If we had some big prospects, they'd probably be able to crack the lineup in a more meaningful way than exchanging one little guy for another.
