Hello all
With all off season signing i believe our club still missing some important pieces in attack and in defence . I have a feeling also we lost lots of leadership in room and even i was among some people who thought Gorges was overpaid and it was time for Gio to go i believe you can't replace leadership that easy
Looking at our line up vs play off team ,i can't say we are better team NOW , i like Gilbert signing but i guess we didn't get a top 3 D we needed long time and in forward we didn't replace Vanek( i know he sucked in P-O but we didn't replace a potential 35-40 scorer in regular season) . Getting Parenteau instead of Danny B was like exchanging problem and i highly doubt( and hope i am wrong) he finish the season in top two lines .

I just hope (god forbid me) we don't see Habs version of year after our run to conference final with Jacques Martin . i strongly believe this team still need lots of work to become a contender .

Barring a Price injury the team is a close to being a lock for a top 3 seed in the Atlantic Division. There is plenty of time time between now and the trade deadline to address the needs that we have in order to be a legit. Cup contender but playing in the East makes the path to the finals much easier than in the West.

And while I'm not a huge PAP fan (who is?), trading Danny Briere for a guy who's put up 50-60 pts. a season pretty regularly seems like a steal of a trade, and I realize that the Avs. probably made the trade for contract reasons . . . but still . . . from our end it's a steal.

Leadership is an overated buzzword that has little meaning. So I am not worried.

I'm not too worried, I think we're a better team than we were when we started last season.

I see PAP as an upgrade on Gionta and reduces the number of true midgets on the top two lines to 2. Malhotra gives us a more adequate 4th liner, PK and faceoff specialist.

Eller can't be worse than last year. I think Sekac might surprise and in any case he gives us more depth.

I like our defense better this year, it feels more balanced, although we'll miss Gorges on occasion. Plus Tinordi and Beaulieu are ready for more responsibilities.

Also Price seems to have finally found consistency and he's the key to our success.

How can anyone be worried in July when it is summertime and the ladies look so fine.

I think I would predict that we won't get home ice in the playoffs next year, but as long as PK signs and Price stays healthy, I think we should solidly be in a playoff spot. Then it's just a question of seeding, which will depend on how much leadership we lost vs aging of guys like Markov vs develop of Galchenyuk vs 20 other factors.

Seems like we do better without the home ice advantage anyway.

Well in the last 2 years we're 0-2 with home ice advantage, 2-0 without and 100% of goalie injuries when we have home ice advantage.

I'm not worried because this team will (still) go as far as Price takes them. And Price will bring 'em to a top-3 spot in the division, probably third. Our defense looks better, but I'm still very skeptical at our forwards. Outside of Pleks, MaxPac & Gallagher, I don't know where all of the goals are going to come from. Bourque? Eller? Yeah right. It's going to be very reliant on Parenteau getting back to where he was prior to the 13-14 season. If he has another bad year, then this team is going to be really in tough to score goals.

I agree about scoring but . . . MB has been able to acquire a goal scorer in-season (Ryder and Vanek) every year he's been the GM.

PAP scored 14 in 55 games in a bad year. I don't think it's too much a stretch to expect him to get back to his usual 18-20 goals.

I'm also expecting more goals from Chucky. Freeing Gallagher from his obligation on DD's line could potentially help the second line as well.

I think our dcorp will be better .....granted there are no major upgrades in the area we struggled with last year which was offence but like you I'm expecting better seasons from the likes of AG, Eller and even Gally

Maybe Bourque can also find consistency and PAP is the wildcard
 
You know, when I was looking up on how many Selke votes Pleks & Dubinsky had, I saw that Rene Bourque during his early days get some votes here & there. I had no idea he even had a clue about playing defense, especially not the way he's been playing since he got here.

I really wonder what happened with him. Did the long-term contract kill all his motivation to play hard? It's very curious.

We are a playoff team for sure unless Price gets hurt . We have some upgrade pieces in PAP and Sekac and our depth on D looks good .

Our biggest problem is simply upfront , like I said before we are going nowhere with the 51-14 combo when the going gets tough come playoff time . Its serviceable for now but not cup caliber .

Goals will be a challenge as usual and we must continue to play good team defense .

What I am worried about is simply player development , dont trust MT at all to develop #27 , Bournival , Nathan , Tinordi , and the newly signed Sekac .

The key is getting Galchy to be #1C that we desperately need and dont trust this regime to develop kids to their full potential .
