Holy small sample size, Batman! You know that Subban is on pace for 40 more goals than Phaneuf. 40! And you say they're similar offensively?

Clearly Phaneuf is better and every GM in the league would take him over Subban.

Exactly... and too bad Phaneuf isn't like a young Phaneuf anymore.

That's not even a knock on Dion. He's still an excellent player... but I think he was better when he was younger.
 
Offensively, with Calgary, he was essentially a 50-point player, and had one year where he peaked at 60. With Toronto, his point paces have varied from 31 to 48. You can argue defensive stats, but he's certainly been worse offensively for you guys than he was on Calgary.

last year Dion had his worst offensive season, but the two years prior were his 2nd and 3rd best offensive seasons ever, relative to league scoring.

378gms, 75gls, 228pts - 82gms, 16gls, 49pts

Phaneuf w/ Toronto
308gms, 39gls, 146pts - 82gms, 10gls, 38pts.

So yea, no.

Half of his seasons with the Leafs have been in that 40+ ranking.

How can you look at those numbers and suggest he's still the same?

again, his 2nd and 3rd best offensive seasons in his career have come as a leaf.
