really depends on whether their kids are as good as they look so far - Nelson, Strome, Leddy, Hamonic in particular.

I think Isles will crash back down, may be a playoff bubble team but don't seem them keeping it up

Thanks Zeke.

How many think the Isles are contenders in the East this year?

Nope. Blueline isn't very good, forward depth probably isn't very good...though, as Zeke mentioned, they do have some kids who could potentially fill those roles.

Should be a bubble team.

I'd bet heavy on the over for the Islanders in Vegas....believe their over/under was something like 82 points.

The Islanders won't be a contender, but they'll be in the hunt for a playoff spot. Let's not forget that they made the playoffs in the lockout-shortened season, and took the Pittsburgh Penguins to game seven in round one. And I'd say that this Islanders team is better than that one.

As for Halak, I don't think he has to be elite. Even if he can deliver NHL-average goaltending to the Isles, he'll be a significant upgrade over the Nabokov/Poulin/Nilsson shit-show from last season.

Few #1 goalies shoulder 65-70 starts anymore (only one goalie played in 65 last year, for instance)......and Halak has years of 63, 57, and 52 games played under his belt, with SV%'s over .920 in two of those three years. (also has a year of .926 in 46gp)

He's shown he can be a #1......if he gives the Isles .920+ over 55-60 games, they'll be a pretty damn solid team.

Montreal got off to a hot start and now has had four days off. I hope it doesn't cool them off.

Laviollette is doing a real nice job in Nashville. They finally have offensive firepower for the first time ever to go with a real good goalie and defense.
