31 point projected lead, nice.

The gap will narrow, especially over the Sens.

The Habs are 4th in the NHL in point percentage, but only 12th in goal differential.

The Sens are 22nd in point percentage, but 18th in goal differential.

The other team that, like Montreal, is poised for a big drop is the Ducks...1st in point%, but 10th in goal diff.

Leafs at 23rd and 21st, so fairly close.

Same shit every year. Habs have been at the top of the East for 3 years and there's always reasons that they don't belong there... yet they continue to be there. They may be lucky but clearly they're good at being lucky.

The Habs are a 100-105 point team.

The Sens, an 90-95 point team.

The gap will narrow, but the Habs are the better regular season team.

He's not wrong though. Habs have the highest PDO in the league this year, and tied with the Leafs at 6th last year. Their possession numbers aren't great either. Price better keep it up, because the advanced stats say they aren't that good.

Habs are on a 112 point pace, last year 100, the year before 108 point pace.

They may eventually stop getting lucky but for now they seem like a pretty lucky/good team. 3 years of good luck.

Not saying they aren't a good team. They have skilled players and outstanding goaltending. But the advanced stats say they are getting better results than they should be.

At some point when a team or player defies "advanced stats" or "indicators" for a long enough period of time you just gotta figure that they may not apply in this case.

biggest discrepancies between pts% rank and score adjusted corsi rank:

overachievers:

1. MTL +18
2. CAL +11
3. ANA +9
4. COL +9
5. NYR +8

underachievers

1. LAK -14
2. CAR -10
3. MIN -9
4. BOS -8
5. TB/CHI -6

But advanced stats are used as a predictor of future performance, when that predictor fails over and over...

Are the Habs going to finish with 112 points? If I was betting money on it I'd say probably not. According to advanced stats they "shouldn't" but they've out produced the advanced stats for 3 years now... so I'm not going to bet against it either.

What'so funny is that the Hab fans went into "defend the team" mode, when all I suggested was that the 31 point gap would close...

Looks like advanced corsi has a 3rd of the league wrong... could it be that advanced corsi might not be the best indicator?
