GDT - Leafs @ CBJ | 7:00 PM EST SNET

Mod Squad
So, quick recap ... what happened over the past 7 days or so?

On Sat we lost in a disgusting manner to the Bruins, where they walked completely over us and brought out the very worst of the team - bad enough for the team to call a players only meeting after the loss in game #8 of the season.

And on Tue night, we happened to play the very, very poor Sabres and completely dominated them in an equally disgusting manner (but their fans are probably happy cause they are another game closer to McDavid).

Which lead us to this weekend. Between the Bruins and the Sabres we went through what was a very bad, and then a very good game, but the Sabres are so bad we can't possibly use them as the measuring stick. So that's why the weekend games vs. the CBJ's and the Hawks would give management and the fans some ideas of where this team is.

And what about the CBJ? They are not exactly a power house and they're suffering from serious injuries at the moment ... the thing is, CBJ beat the Leafs in all 3 meetings last season, so there's something on the line. The BJ's were also a playoff team - something that we weren't. The BJ's are also only 1 point behind us in standing, and a loss by the Leafs tonight would push us 1 position down in the eastern basement (and only 3 points above the very, very bad Sabres) so this game DOES matter.

Or so I hope, to the players.

Again I'm using zonestart-adjusted 5v5 corsi close percentage.

So Bernier starts tonight and Reimer starts tomorrow?? Weird ... Bernier got the start vs. BOS and BUF, so I presumed he's the #1 again ... between CBJ and CHI I'd start the #1 vs. CHI, especially given Bernier has played more games in the West vs. Chicago ....

It doesn't make a huge difference anyways, and I'd rather we start Reimer vs. CHI, but if Carlyle believes in Reimer as the better goalie of the 2, why did he start Bernier against BOS on Sat and again on Tue?

its a bit like he's more worried about locking down these two points tonight, and doesn't fancy his chances against CHI even with Bernie in net.

It doesn't matter who they put in net...the Leafs need to win games that have nothing to do with our goaltender standing on his head....you know...like last year.

I'm sort of past the whole Reimer vs. Bernier thing...Bernier is clearly our starting goalie, now and going forward.

As for starting Bernier tonight and giving Reimer the game agains the Hawks...do we even know for sure that it will be Reimer getting the start against Chicago tomorrow? In the last 12 days, the Leafs have only played three games---and Bernier didn't even have to break a sweat in the game against Buffalo. It's totally possible Bernie could be getting both starts this weekend.

Sooner or later the goals are going to come for Naz and Lupul. It's been ridiculous how little reward they've had for their overall great play.

They better not let this sieve look like a vezina candidate. At the same time, hope Bernie can string a few good games together ... been bumpy so far.

Randy will no doubt revert to his stupidity at the first sign of trouble. Let's hope the Leafs come out strong.

Lupul out with broken hand ?

Free willy ?

Huh? Where did you hear this!?

And yeah, if any of our top 6 goes down to injury it's gonna kinda suck that we could've brought Nylander up from the Marlies. Especially since we're already kinda short a legit top 6 guy when healthy.

Grow balls and make a trade Nonis. You kind of have to expect Lupul to go down once a month or so. Need another top-six forward, otherwise this team is in a whirlwind of trouble.

They just announced it pre-game.

Hurt his hand in practice yesterday. Ashton in for Lupul tonight. Uncle Leo to top line <-- yeah

Yep, I just heard it on the radio too, driving to my house.

Apparently he fell in practice, broke his finger and will now be out for "a while". So, RIP to the revamped #1 line.

There's plenty of good looking forwards in the Top 10 of the draft.
