Gaudreau getting hot as Flames visit Canadiens

Season series: Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais scored in the shootout when the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Oct. 28 in Calgary. Canadiens goalie Carey Price stopped 37 of 38 shots and then stopped Jiri Hudler, Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau in the shootout. Flames goalie Jonas Hiller made 18 saves.

Flames team scope: The Flames are 3-1-2 in their past six games entering Sunday, and one reason for that has been rookie forward Gaudreau. In those six games he has two goals, each a game-winner, and three assists. The hot streak comes after he was a healthy scratch against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 17. "Every game I'm feeling more comfortable," Gaudreau told the Flames website. That comfort level was on display Friday against the Nashville Predators when he had a goal and an assist, as well as a spectacular move around Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov in the first period to create a prime scoring chance during a 4-3 win. "It seems like the puck's on a string for him lately," Flames captain Mark Giordano told the Flames website. "Not just [Friday] but the past few [games]. Really nice to see. [Friday] he was a game-changer. There's nothing else to say. He really changed the game for us. It seemed like every time he touched it something good was going to happen."

Canadiens team scope: Montreal spent about 20 minutes before practice Saturday working on its power play. The Canadiens are 0-for-12 in their past five games and entered play Saturday 26th in the NHL at 9.4 percent. They practiced Saturday with the same line combinations they used Thursday in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Vancouver Canucks, including a top line of David Desharnais centering Max Pacioretty and Dale Weise. "When you're putting lines together you want to … you're trying to have a good mix, guys going to work in the corners, guys who can make good plays, a guy who could score," coach Michel Therrien said. "We think that could be a good mix." Therrien said that just because the lines looked one way Saturday doesn't mean they'll look that way Sunday.

Nice job Spidey. I expect a good effort tonight and a nice win.

Why would you say that?

Tinordi did stay after the morning skate for extra work , usually that means he wont play .

If Rene Bourque doesn't score tonight, he will equal his longest goal drought to start a season at 12 games.

interesting top 3 lines if they are kept that way , I guess they are trying to find some balanced scoring in the top 9

Weaver should be that 7th d all season long , filling in for injuries , NB and JT should be regulars dont know why they are dicking them around this way .

Weaver stinks! Looks like he shrunk over the summer as well.

These lines won't last past the first period. I like Weise . . . but he's not a top six forward.

MT is not comfortable yet with two players in the top 6 D who are basically rookies.

I think that's a picture of weaver I the ice.

We are scoring with our top 2 lines 5 on 5.
We aren't scoring on the PP
We arent getting production out of the third line.

Therrien's solution?
Put Weise in the top 6.
Break up the plekanec line.
Don't take any of the underperformers like Bourque/Eller out of the lineup for guys with speed (Bournival) and offensive skill (Sekac) who have been in the press box forever.

I don't understand it.... but Therrien is like the idiot savant, and somehow this will probably work.

i honestly have no idea why Sekac or Bournival have not gotten into a game this past week.
