GDT - Rise of Optimus Leafs @ Wings 8:00PM EST

number17

Mod Squad
Let's hope my GDT mojo can keep the streak going ...

After a close but solid win over the Flames, the Leafs take a short 'road' game to face the Wings in Detroit tonight.

I am assuming Optimus will get the start tonight, but i won't be totally surprised if Randy goes with Bernier again after a strong outing last night. You figure at some point you gotta start your backup though, and the last game Reimer played was the 9-2 spanking by Nashville ... so time for Optimus to redeem himself!

No other lineup change is expected after the win last night. It's good to see Kadri being awarded the most icetime among all F's, let's hope his dominating plays continue.

There's an outside chance Kozun may get in tonight, but I think Panik had a pretty strong night so not sure if that will happen.

The Wings have won 7 of their past 8 so this won't be easy tonight.

Go Leafs Go!!!

wings are scary good right now.

they're a lot like the leafs - very good and deep forwards, very good goalie, iffy defense - except that they also play a great possession system on top of that.

this is gonna be tough.

We've got to bite the bullet and play Reimer sometime. After all, we don't want to overwork Bernier to the point of injury like we did last year, and then be forced to turn to a rusty Reimer and one of our AHLers in a crucial portion of the season. There aren't a lot of easy games coming up either, so you've kind of got to pick your poison:

Today: Leafs @ Detroit
Sat: Detroit @ Toronto
Sun: Los Angeles @ Toronto
Tue: Anaheim @ Toronto

And at some point, all these home games are going to even out.

Actually that is a 7 game road trip for the World Junior tournament. With games vs the Wild and Jets starting off January.

Yep. The glut of home games to start the year, and the seven game road trip starting in late December are a direct result of the WJC's taking over the ACC.

It's not too bad though. At least that seven-game road trip is broken up by four off-days around Christmas, and then they've also got three days off at the conclusion of the trip before a Wednesday and Friday game at the ACC against Washington and Columbus.

That's a big 7 games though...coming out of that stretch with a winning record would set up nicely moving toward the spring.

I'm guessing Naz is probably going to be getting a steady diet of Pavel Datsyuk tonight. Should be a pretty good test for him, with how Dats is playing lately.

Percy has been recalled for this one ... maybe Gardiner is sitting out?

And just realized Reimer's SV% is .898 ... OMG.

I was about to post "Reimer is still a career .917 (or whatever) goalie. We don't have to worry about playing him." Then I checked the stats.

149 gp, .913.

He's still a solid goalie. But I definitely wasn't expecting those numbers a couple of years ago.
