Hurricanes' Biega could make NHL debut in Montreal

By Sean Farrell

HURRICANES (26-34-9) at CANADIENS (44-20-7)

TV: RDS, SNE, FS-CR

Season series: Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price allowed one goal in each of his two wins against the Carolina Hurricanes. Price has made 53 saves on 55 Hurricanes shots he has faced, including a 28-save effort in Montreal's 3-1 win at PNC Arena on Dec. 29. Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk had his first career hat trick against Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward in the Canadiens' 4-1 win at Bell Centre on Dec. 16.

Hurricanes team scope: Defenseman John-Michael Liles will not face Montreal because of a lower-body injury so defenseman Danny Biega, a Montreal native, was recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. He will join his teammates in Montreal on Thursday and is looking to make his NHL debut. Goalie Cam Ward is ill and not ready to play, so Anton Khudobin will make his third start in a row. Coach Bill Peters is confident his players will compete down to the wire despite Carolina's all-but-mathematical elimination from the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. "Somebody called me (Tuesday) and said, 'What are you guys trying to do down the stretch?' And I said, 'We're trying to win,'" Peters said following Carolina's 2-1 overtime loss at home to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. "We're going to play hard, we're going to compete."

Canadiens team scope: Canadiens coach Michel Therrien gave his players Wednesday off as Montreal returned from a three-game road trip. Canadiens forward Brandon Prust set up Montreal's first two goals in a 3-2 win against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center on Tuesday. "It makes the road trip a lot better, going home with four points out of six," Prust said. "We talked about that before the game, going home on a positive note; take the energy back home and get a couple of wins." Price, who is expected to start against Carolina, got a rare night off Tuesday. Backup goalie Dustin Tokarski made a career-high 41 saves for his sixth win. He became the first rookie to record 40 saves or more in a game for the Canadiens since Price on Nov. 27, 2007.

Looks like Petry will miss the game with the flu.

Lines at morning skate:

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Galchenyuk - Desharnais - Parenteau
de la Rose - Eller - Smith-Pelly
Prust - Malhotra - Weise

Markov - Subban
Beaulieu - Gilbert
Emelin - Pateryn

Ask him to sneeze on Gilbert please, several times. And lick his cutlery.

At least there aren't two righties or lefties together. That last pairing looks like it can punish people.

Great, just what we need right now, the flu going through the team.
