Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2021-22 Edition

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

FANRAG SPORTS NETWORK: Chris Nichols recently cited NHL analyst Darren Dreger told Montreal’s TSN 690 he’s been told by managers around the league that Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin isn’t kicking down doors looking for players.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: For several weeks, there’s been some talk of Bergevin looking to add a top-four defenseman and perhaps a center. Some of that talk linked the Habs to Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal. Bergevin does has a history of making early-season moves, but nearly two months into this campaign, he’s yet to pull the trigger. That doesn’t mean the Habs GM won’t make any significant moves this season. If he does, I anticipate those deals will take place closer to the March 1 trade deadline.

HABS EVALUATING FUTURE OPTIONS
TheFourthPeriod.com
The Montreal Canadiens do not appear to be on the verge of completing a trade to bolster their roster, but GM Marc Bergevin and his staff are keep tabs on the marketplace.
It has been widely reported that the Habs would like to add a top-four defenseman to their team at some point this season, but a move is not believed to be imminent.

Bergevin continues to explore the market and determine which players could become available later in the season, likely in the New Year and closer to the March 1 trade deadline.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, who mentioned this in his latest "30 Thoughts" column, the Canadiens could also pursue another power forward this season.

As Friedman notes, with the Canadiens sitting at the top of the standings, management could look to strengthen the team's chances at competing for the Stanley Cup this season by adding outside assistance.

It's unclear if the Habs are willing to move any of their top young talent in exchange for short-term rentals, but it's presumed the team would be interested in exploring that option for a player with more term left on his contract.

yes I know...it's Eklund but...

BIG Rumor: Habs want Doan NOW(e4+) (Sens?)
December 2, 2016, 11:51 AM ET

Canadiens are going ALL IN on trying to acquire Shane Doan. I have three separate sources on this one and two are VERY close to the situation...while the other is very close to Doan himself.

One source, "This will all come down to Shane himself and whether or not he wants to take a serious shot at a Cup. In the past he has chosen the stability of keeping his family in Arizona. This year could be different however"

Another source added, "This all heated up last weekend when Montreal decided not only did they want Doan, but they didn't want to wait until the trade deadline to integrate him into the roster."

Whether or not Doan wants to wait and stay in Arizona as long as possible is the issue.

From what I was hearing from people in Ottawa last night, the Sens also want in on Doan and have been hearing the same rumblings of the Habs attempts to snag him. They won't be the only team.

So many other more attractive US teams that he could approve a trade too, like Cali teams that are close to home in Arizona.

I'd take him. He's on a one-year deal.

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

What role do you give Doan? Third liner?

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

we definitely need another 2 goal scorer on the team, maybe for a 6th rounder? or 7th? I dunno..

Wouldn't Iginla be a better pick for an aging vet... or even Jagr since I am not sure how advance stats, which Florida has gone all in on, likes over-age players in general?

Jagr's finally done. I've seen him play a lot this year. He can't keep up. He takes stupid penalties because he's a step behind. He's reduced to a PP specialist.

Iginla over Doan for sure.
