Starting to think I'm just talking to myself.

One option that has always intrigued me is "best ball." Fantrax has a "count best players" option. I believe that means that you don't set your lineup... you just get your best scoring points each day.

There are definitely pros and cons to this. On one hand it takes a little away from strategy, but it also eliminates a lot of the micromanaging that a lot of us don't really care for. It allows us to "manage" the team, not so much "coach" it though.

Personally I love the building of the team and making roster decisions, adding, dropping, trading, drafting players... my least favorite part of fantasy leagues is setting my lineup.

Love the best ball idea. I also hate the day to day management but it sucks when a guy gets injured or scratched mid week in a weekly league. Best ball helps mitigate that.

Yeah I think with a league that will be this involved it could be a bonus to not have to deal with the minutia like setting your lineup each day.

Also... if you're going to tank... you have to do it the right way... by trading away your better players for prospects and picks. Not by playing your shittier players on purpose.

That best ball is interesting, and makes sense for fantasy hockey as there are no matchups to try to maximize like in fantasy baseball. And would allow you to simply build a team, though would that then negate having a bench if even the bench players get points, or am I interpreting the idea wrong?

I think if we go with bestball we'd want a smaller bench... maybe only 3 players.

I've added a "rules committee" to the rules thread.

10. Rule Changes and Vetos

10.1 Rules Committee

(i) Habspatrol, Hairnova and (a manger to be determined) will be the rules committee. Any proposed rule changes will be discussed on the board by interested managers, preferably all managers will participate. The committee will make the final decision.

10.2 Trade Vetos

(i) Vetos will be handled the same way as rule changes. If a member of the Rules Committee is involved then an alternate member with take his place on the matter.

(ii) Vetos are only to be used in extreme cases and when there is strong evidence of collusion.

Again... up for discussion. However Hairnova and I were discussing rule changes and felt this would be the best way to avoid the roadblocks we run into with rules.

Hopefully this will prevent to talking and talking about issues and rarely ever making a decision.

Just an FYI for scoring. With the scoring system we currently have in place. This how the top 50 would have played out last season.

I've colour coded dmen, forwards and goalies.

If anyone else has concerns about the rules please speak up. These are all up for debate.

Or if there are things that stand out that you really like, I'd like to hear it.

And I'd definitely like to hear some suggestions.

I like the idea of the best ball option. I'd be all for that. So the way I understand it, it takes the best lineup out of your 23 man roster according to elegibilities?

The other thing that you mentioned about the PIM discussion, I would be okay with taking PIM out or at least lowering the value and increasing fights. In real hockey you get very little out of getting a penalty, unless its a fight.

Another thing which isnt incorporated and I dont wanna suggest something that might hurt the system, but there is no advantage to players who are playing the PP or PK. Is there any reason for that?

Well TOI is rewarded... and players that get PK and PP time do tend to be the players with more TOI.

I would be open to raising the reward for special teams TOI if people think that's a good idea.

Re: Roll Call

Why not just port over the vast majority of stuff from the FI Dynasty league? That would take care of "virtually" everything and we can hash out the remaining items that the FI dynasty hasn't sorted out, and any cap details.

One issue we would have imo is that the NHL cap is too low for a league like this. Our cap should be a fixed percentage about the NHL cap to allow for further flexibility, but not so high that super teams are realistically possible.

Yeah we can use a lot of the rules and scoring from that league... but I'd definitely like to add more possession stats like shots on goal, shot (attempts) blocked and shots missed.

As for the cap. I wouldn't want to increase the cap too much... like you said, we want to make "super teams" tougher to compile.

I agree that we shouldn't increase it too much, but the other thing we need to defend against is wildly inflating the value of young players on ELC's, cheap RFA deals, etc.

I was thinking about something in the range of 15-20%. It would be a bit of a mockery if a young guy like Saad for example, was waiver available because he's making 6 million when in the NHL, there was a lineup of teams looking to pay good value for him, and then give him 6 million a year. With his level of production in the FI league though (.8ish), nobody would likely touch him at 6 million.

That's the thing, I don't think having a lot of cap space is going to be common. For example, in the league we're both in that I'm currently terrible in, if it was a real NHL team, I would have been around 63-64 million last year before I really tore it down at the deadline. With Keith, Kronwall, etc it would have been a very mediocre, 80 million dollar hockey team.

and that was a bad team. It's just the nature of a ~16 team league.

Yeah I guess there is that too. I'm really hoping to get closer to 20 teams.

So what if we went 15% above the NHL ceiling and floor?

If we get 20 teams, yeah 15% should be fine. If we have ~16, I'd say 20%. This is something that can be tweaked as necessary to get it right as well.

With that said, 20% of the cap is roughly 85 million...it's hard to build a runaway super team for 85 million. My title winning team in the FI dynasty league would come in at 126 million this upcoming season.
