Prefer poaching an RFA that is unsigned by their team. Not an offer sheet but a straight up trade for Boedker would be ideal. Like to add skill to the team's core. Younger players under 27 and no 32+ guys.

I'd probably be pretty happy if we ended up with Stewart and one of Sekera or Beauchemin at reasonable prices.

I don't see us adding a Sekera or Beauchemin, they will go for more than we are willing to spend on defence.

We will likely add a D (assuming we trade Emelin or Gilbert), but it will be someone who is signing relatively cheaply. So many teams need defencemen i think some will still see those guys as top 4 options, and we don't need a top 4.

At forward, I'd rather trade for a big name then go after what is in this crop. Maybe sign someone cheap after July 10th or so, but nothing that makes me want to pay early days of free agency prices.

We've got essentially no cap space for UFAs right now. Hopefully we can clear out a few people either before the draft, or do other moves later, but I don't expect us to be very busy. We've already signed our big UFA for the season in Petry.

I dont think there is room for a Dman unless they trade one away.

I would target Stafford. He is still 29 and had been buried in Buffalo too long. Last year he scored the same amount of goals in Winnipeg in half the games he played in Buffalo. During the good years when he had some talent around he potted 30. Easily a 20 to 25 goal guy but there is upside and has good size so why not. To me this guy is a no brainer unless there's a magic wand we can wave to get a top 6 winger without losing assets.

Justin Williams on a one or two year deal and François Beauchemin on a one year deal.

I actually think Beauchemin paired with Subban could be a superb pairing.

Zero interest in the rest, though.

Read somewhere Beauchemin's mannerisms & performance suckitude in Toronna have scouts pegging him as a "non-traditional hockey market player - folds in pressured hockey markets.

Maybe, but I'd still risk it on a one year deal. Just give him no media to do and let him do his thing as much as he can.

This team has three glaring needs in no specific order: a first pairing, left-handed d-man; A #1 center; A #1 right winger.

While I don't think either Beauchemin or Williams are the solution for either of those problems, they might be good stopgaps for another year and will at least be useful players that can give a lot of good minutes.

I would like Stafford or Stewart. Really wish we could dump PAP's contract though.... and it seems next to impossible to get someone to take that contract at this point.

Problem is Stafford will be looking at 4-5 mil , if he took a 2 year fair deal solid RW for us but he is looking to cash in big time.

Stafford spent a long time struggling in buffalo.... and not all of those teams were as bad as the last two years. The one year he scored a bunch he had an abnormally high shooting percentage compared to his career average. Im not sure hes easily a 20 goal guy
