Celtic are reportedly thrilled to be drawn with Malmo after going to Azerbaijan and playing on painted dirt for the away leg. And for the record, there are some pretty heavy hitters in the schedule mixed in with the usual suspects for this to be the last play-in round.

A. Completely understandable
B. Dammit
C. That flame out lifts about 14.5 million pounds out of the budget .... which kills any chances of improvement over the next season and a half.

Don't worry they will make most of that back when they sell Virgil van Dijk to Everton :)

Today's results:

APOEL 1-1 FC Astana (Astana advances 2-1 aggregate)
Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Lazio (Leverkusen advances 3-1 aggregate)
Brugge 0-4 Man U (Man U advances 7-1 aggregate)
CSKA Moscow 3-1 Sporting Lisbon (CSKA advances 4-3 aggregate)

The pots are set for the Group Stage draw on Thursday. New this year, Pot 1 has the holder and the champions of the top 7 leagues, regardless of coefficient. Because Barcelona won both the UCL and La Liga, the 8th team in Pot 1 is the champion of the 8th ranked league.

Pot 1: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Zenit St Petersburg, PSV Eindhoven

Pot 2: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Arsenal, Manchester United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City

Pot 3: Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Lyon, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiakos, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, AS Roma

Pot 4: BATE Borisov, Borussia Monchengladbach, Vfl Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Gent, Malmo, FK Astana

Because teams from the same country can't be in the same group, it's likely that one of the English teams will draw Barcelona.

Had the current UEFA club coefficients been used, as they had in prior years, the pots would look like this.

Pot 3: Sevilla, Lyon, Dinamo Kiev, Olympiakos, PSV, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, Roma

Pot 4: BATE Borisov, Borussia Monchengladbach, Vfl Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Gent, Malmo, FK Astana

Not the way they're currently playing. To me that group has the whiff of pending disappointment for United fans all over it.

The group has 2 Pot 3 teams; PSV got a gift with Barca winning La Liga and the UCL. They lost Depay and Wijnaldum too. Wolfsburg is about to lose their best player when De Bruyne finally leaves for Man City. Was Man U's match against Brugge an aberration or a harbinger of things to come?

Put it this way, they've look meh or worse in EVERY single game since they broke camp. I'd call those efforts a trend ... even if the results haven't been that bad overall.
