Watching Kimmich and Vidal almost get into it, I was thinking, I'm putting my money on Vidal.

I don't follow soccer much anymore . What is this Confed cup all about ? Is it a tune up for the World Cup , or a friendly type of tourney ?

Yes to both. Always held year before WC (so, Russia) to give facilities, logistics, etc a dry run.

No one really cares about the outcome, so it's basically a friendly tournament.

Participants are current continental champs, defending WC champ and the host.

Germany didn't play well but they won.

I do think Kimmich soiled himself when Vidal pushed him.

Canada tied with Costa Rica and managed to beat French Guiana 4-2 in Gold Cup match and has a good chance to advance if they tie vs Honduras. Costa Rica came with almost their A squad minus few regulars such as Navas, Borges.. Mexico brought a local league players as the main squad just played in Confed Cup, usa also trying some new players in this tournament.

Interesting how Financial FairPlay plays out.

PSG will obviously be scrutinized, but there should also be questions about very high buy out clauses.

    Question about these transfer/buyout clauses

Does Barcelona get an immediate cheque for the 200+ euro or paid in installments ?

Also does Neymar get a chunk of that money in salary or is his coin totally separate ?

Finally how does PSG expect to recoup this massive fee ? that number is staggering for a bump up in ticket revenue and concessions

Barca getting 200 euro cheque immediately like the other transfer fees, and Neymar doesn't get any of it in salary, he will be paid 20m euro a year(520k euro weekly). Crazy amount indeed(transfer fee and salary also).
As count said selling jersey all around the world is the major way of making portion of this money. The other way is club also get some part of commercials money, etc of Neymar with PSG jersey.

The big issue is Neymar is not Messi or Ronaldo, we will see how things go...

TV Money has gone insane in football recently, which is fuelling these fee increases.

Transfer payments can be made in instalments and sometimes a percentage goes to a third party, often the team previous to the seller that had the contract (which would have been Santos for Neymar) or to the player.

But not in this case. As 25 says, it all went to Barca and all in one shot. They did not want to sell, and are mighty pissed.

    There are a few issues:

    1) Some players get cheesed when the buy out clause is set high, they view it as an attempt to block their market access.
    2) There's a major fixation on financial fair play for these petrodollar mega teams, like PSG and Manchester City. But they can also argue that exorbitant buy out clauses are also unfair.
    3) I expect Barça will seek revenge. They are nobility, and view PSG and a johnny-come-lately plaything of Persian gulf trust funds.

They can't. It's a contract buy out clause - once it's triggered the player can leave if he wants. Usually transfers like this one fall through because the player can't agree to personal terms with suitor. PSG can pay any buy out, so it really is a matter of the arrangement with the player. They tried to get him last year, but it didn't work. They got their man this year.

He never would have signed with Barca without the clause.

Aside: PSG is owned by Qataris, and Barça just dropped Qatar Airlines as main sponsor. Probably means nothing, but ya never know.

Also, PSG pounced after Messi re-upped with Barça. That was significant, and very clever of PSG.
