True enough, Gee, but the reason the organization is joined at the hip to guys who can't score is because they're the type of "play it safe, low-risk, low-reward" players that Therrien loves. Therrien isn't concerned with winning Cups; his only desire is to keep cashing an NHL paycheque. To this end he will continue to hedge his bets. Guys like Pleks and DD don't win you championships but they do keep you employed in a way that higher-risk but potentially higher-reward guys don't. And Bergy likes these players because they work cheap and don't make waves. When he speaks of players having "character" what he's really talking about are players who keep their heads down, play the games, and who don't ask for big money.

Money and talent aside, this team doesn't want any more Subbans in the dressing room. They prefer drones like Plekanec and Markov.

If this team had an elite defensive coach like Jacques Lemaire behind the bench, it could be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

If you look at the composition of the team, they are built around the goalie & defense. If you had a real coach behind the bench, a Barry Trotz / Mike Babcock / Ken Hitchcock / type that has a history of success being a defensive coach, this team could be legit. But unfortunately...

Watch, DD will finish the season with roughly the same amount of points as he did last year and people will still lose their minds.

DD is slotted where he should be, as the #3 center.

Who gets excited about a vet having a good camp? DD is what he is...I hope that line produces in the reg season but I have my doubts.

If DD gets 50-55 points on that line with 3rd line mins we'll be in very good shape...

The same Barry Trotz that only won 2 playoff rounds in his career despite having Vezina caliber goaltending and Norris trophy caliber defensemen?

How many finals has Trots carried Nashville too? I am sure the coach with no neck would of won a title or 2 if he had Toews , Kane , Kopitar , Hossa, Carter , Wiliams, etc.. to produce when it mattered .

He had a #1G and 1D just like us , but their offence simply wasnt good enough when the war started . Trots isnt going turn 51 into Toews or wave a wand and help 14 grow 5 inches and turn into Kopitar and turn Max into a clutch scoring machine like Justin Wiliams .

Yes, the same Barry Trotz that had a team full of scabs to surround Rinne, Weber & Sutter that lost year after year to the Sharks, Red Wings or Blackhawks.

This Habs team isn't a team full of scabs, they're actually pretty good. They're offensively challenged, but defensively they should be one of the best in the league... Yet, they're no where near that.

Yeah, along with Sutter and that's where it ends. Look further and you'll see that for years upon years he had team with nothing but scabs. Trotz made that team a pain in the ass to play against for years and every single time he lost in the playoffs with Nashville, it was against the high powered Detroit Red Wings or the high powered Chicago Blackhawks or the high powered San Jose Sharks.

Dismissing him because he never won much in Nashville is shortsighted.

Quick reminder: Two years ago when he lost Pekka Rinne to injury for ~75% of the year and lost Ryan Sutter to free agency, he got his team of scabs within four points of making the playoffs. That in itself is absolutely outstanding.

Yes, said before but with only 1 legit All-star forward, any coach for this team would need to do well to win a cup. Need couple of 11-27-14-81 to have career years and also play well into June to have a good chance.

Might this be the last game in a Hab jersey for Toker, especially if he is shaky?
