Around the NHL 2016-2017

The league pays lip service to player safety.

It's not just the slashes. It's also cross checking, which players seem to be able to do with impunity these days. I'm pretty sure Roberts nearly had his career end early over repeated cross checks to his neck area. In the LA game, Doughty was allowed to repeatedly (like, 8 times) hammer the back of JVR's (might have been someone else) neck/shoulders rather viciously while he was down on the ice. The ref was looking right at the whole thing.

Every game I see guys get nastily cross checked without being called. It's pathetic that the league allows this.

Not a good night for the Bruins (or us ... but if we keep winning then it doesn't matter) ... both Tampa and NYI won in OT / shootout, so NYI has now taken over the final wildcard spot, and and the Bolts are tied with the Bruins for the 9th spot.

I'd love to see the Bruins miss the playoff, but if these bubble teams continue to be at our tail it's not good news either. Winning and losing is such a fine line in the NHL, we could very easily find ourselves back in the wildcard spot if we lose a couple.

i'm actually amazed how well nhl rule changes have worked over the years.

there was an absolute blown knee epidemic for a few years and then it just dissapeared.

concussions as well have stopped being such a thing.

Na not really. Remember when Roberts tried to murder Kenny Jonsson? Now THAT was a hit from behind. Take notes Roman.

Heh. Imagine how long the suspension would be for that hit now? Roberts probably would have been done for the playoffs.

Key is being semi competitive off the hop. If they can show signs of progress right away and not be a complete tire fire they may do well.

The NBA will be next and we start talking Quebec again.

NHL in vegas is different from any other market in the league.

Ever notice that the Leafs always play their two florida games during Ontario Schools spring break.
Ever notice that the Habs do the same for Quebec spring break, and play their between Boxing Day and New years.

Vegas is a destination city.

they might get 12,000 on a tuesday night for a game against Columbus, but the Casinos are going to buy up the tickets, and then sell travel packages. There will be packages sold in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, LA, Boston, New York, Chicago, etc... etc... 4 days in Vegas, See your team play there on Saturday night.

This will fill the building until the team develops a local fan base. Even after that, it will still be a big feature in their schedule.

Hoping the Leafs get a late season game that lines up with pool season. Make a trip out of it at least
