Guys, guys, guys ... here's a thread for what you're up to this summer and other misc stuff that's not hockey related. Unless you want it to be. Anybody going anywhere fun or doing something interesting?

I'll put in a gratuitous plug for my daughter Sarah here. Oak City Comicon is Saturday (4/16) at the Raleigh Convention Center. There are a lot of good guest artists, there's always tons of cosplay action ... including a costume contest ... and artists alley booths in addition to comic and toy vendors. We're in booth 244 with cartoon and movie inspired art, X Files and Animal Crossing pins and other goodies.

In May we'll be heading to London for my son's college graduation trip ... despite the fact that he isn't graduating until December, but whatever.

So ... 'sup with y'all

Breaking from Florida/Disney this year and introducing my middle school daughters to the spectacle that is Las Vegas. Lots of shows planned, Grand Canyon tour planned, meeting up with my parents and sister. We are really looking forward to a complete change of pace and not having to worry about running around as much as a Disney trip requires. Going in June so it will be darn hot but I'll take 100 and dry over 90 and humid every time. Kids are really excited about getting off the east coast and seeing some different stuff for a change.

And yes, the wife and I will be sneaking out for some casino gambling for sure. That is one of the few things we miss about living in Cape May country for 9 years (being 10 minutes from the beach and proximity to my wife's family being the others). Our bank account is much happier with us being 4 hours away from a casino here (not sure we will ever make the trek out to the NC mountains to visit Harrah's Cherokee)

Much like CM taking a Disney break, my wife and I are deciding whether we take a break from Napa/Sonoma this summer. We might get our wine fix in Oregon and Washington though, since my sister lives in Portland now. I have a new boss who's being a hard guy on vacation days, even though I have 28 to burn this year. The only thing I know for sure is a trip to Chicago in early June to see US/Costa Rica in the Copa America. I might head back there in late July for Bayern Munich/AC Milan. A couple of long beach weekends over Memorial Day and 4th of July.

My wife and my 16 month old son just returned two weeks ago from an awesome 6 night stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom resort in Orlando. That place was incredible if anyone enjoys the African inspired culture and the exotic animals in a jungle-like setting. The weather was perfect and the crowds were tolerable at all the Disney parks. Disney Springs has grown and changed a lot and we had some great dinners over there at the Springs.

This summer we will take our annual Long island trip to see the in-laws...take in a Mets or Yankee game, enjoy the city, the beach and the pool just to get away from the NC July heat!

Probably go to Salt Lake City to visit my son there. And some beach trips.

BTW, the concert cancellations hit PNC arena today, Cirque Du Soleil canceled their shows in June.

Hoping to make it back to Northern Michigan again this year, but who knows if we'll be able to afford it. My parents will be down this way in June during my daughter's summer track out so we'll be hitting the mountains and the beach. Then it's back to school for the li'l lady. First grade!

Pretty quiet here. We'll be moving our daughter into her new off-campus house in Burlington, Vermont in early June (she'll be a junior at UVM in the fall and is not coming home for the summer) and--once he chooses from among the schools he's been accepted to--hopefully moving our son into a dorm somewhere in late August. My wife and I should be empty nesters by the fall and then we can start thinking about some travel plans!

Oh...and my summer beer league season starts in two weeks!

I finish school in 3 weeks. Looking for a job. No big plans until that happens. Probably spend a lot of time on the local lakes this summer.

Does Vermont take Maple Syrup as payment for tuition? And do the old guys there all look like the scientist Doc Brown from Back to the Future?

This weekend we've been going to the Tortuga Music Festival here in our backyard.
Memorial Weekend we'll be in Daytona for the Country500 Festival (you need to check out that lineup if you're a country fan).
This summer we're doing Paris/Rome/Venice/Greek Islands.

Yeah ... that resort is spectacular. We stayed there a couple of years ago celebrating my daughter's college graduation. The building itself is fantastic and enjoying the animals from your deck while having a nice quiet breakfast is astonishing. And the staff are just the best. It's a great option at Disney.

I was an empty nester once ... now I'm back to four people in the house, at least for the next 6-8 months. Enjoy it while you can.

Hopefully going to Greece end of summer with my son. We'll see.
Otherwise, speaking of which, my little guy will be in Germany from middle of May till July 1st - so I will have a little extra time to catch up on house projects... , etc.. plus work on my music and other things that I like to do for thrills. :)

This year my wife and I are headed to Grenada for a week's dive trip, where we'll be meeting up with her brother, his wife, & daughter. They're not divers, but there's plenty of other stuff to do on Grenada. They live in Maine, so warm ocean water will be a different thing for them.

After that, the wife and I are headed to Bali for a 3 weeks worth of diving. The Indo-Pacific has some spectacular diving and I want to see what I can before humanity wrecks it worse than they already have.

My wife and I along with another couple are going to Italy for three weeks.
Start in Rome and end in Venice.

The timing is based on the fact that i found first class airfare for $4.00 more per ticket than cattle car coach - couldn't pass that by!

I was sooooo close. My daughter was 17, son was 16... then my youngest along. Now the older two are out and she's nine. Wouldn't change a thing though, she's awesome. We just take her with us :).

Sounds fun.

I'll be in Rome and Venice this summer as well. Will you be the guy with the camera? :wink

Yeah, I'm not really complaining. It's been great to have my 25 year old daughter back with us for a little while. Nothing like walking down to the area where she works in the morning and seeing the art she made the night before.

Those two years we had without anybody else in the house were nice though. Quiet. It cannot be over rated.
