2016-17 Premier League Thread

I missed this one in the schedule:

Watford 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool are 3 points ahead of Man City for 3rd, although City have 1 match in hand.

If you haven't seen it yet try and catch the goal Emre Can scored yesterday.

Not quite Mkhitaryan or Giroud level but pretty close.

Matchweek 36 kicks off on Friday

Friday:
West Ham v. Spurs 3:00/20:00 NBCSN

Saturday:
Man City v. Crystal Palace 7:30/12:30 NBCSN
Hull v. Sunderland 10:00/15:00 NBCSN
Leicester v. Watford CNBC
Bournemouth v. Stoke
Burnley v. West Brom
Swansea v. Everton 12:30/17:30 NBC

Sunday:
Liverpool v. Southampton 8:30/13:30 NBCSN
Arsenal v. Man U 11:00/16:00 NBCSN

Monday:
Chelsea v. Middlesbrough 3:00/20:00 NBCSN

Conte had a point. It makes no sense whatsoever for Spurs to kick off a full 3 days before Chelsea. While I love that the TV money makes it possible for us all to see whatever matches we choose, it's really making a hash of sensible scheduling.

Conte has probably changed his tune.

West Ham 1-0 Spurs

If Chelsea beat Boro on Monday and at West Brom on Friday, they're champions before Spurs play their next match.

Leicester 3-0 Watford
Hull 0-2 Sunderland
Bournemouth 2-2 Stoke
Burnley 2-2 West Brom

Potentially disastrous result for Hull, Sunderlands 2nd was offside from reports but considering it was in injury time it probably didn't effect the result.

Because this happened

Swansea 1-0 Everton

Swans move up to 17th, Hull drop to 18th.

Liverpool 0-0 Southampton
Arsenal 2-0 Man U

Wasn't a good point at fulltime for Liverpool but with Arsenal beating Man U that result isn't a killer for Liverpool.

In Championship news.

Blackburn have been relegated to league One. Notts Forrest & Birmingham survive.

Oh yeah and Newcastle piped Brighton to the Championship Title.

Wenger finally beats Mourinho in the League.

Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Fulham finish 3-6 in the Championsip. Millwall and Bradford City advance to the League 1 Playoff final. Portsmouth win League 2, Luton Town, Exeter City, Carlisle United and Blackpool finish 4-7 in League 2.

On the bottom end of the Championship table, Wigan and Blackburn joined poor, pitiful Rotherham in the drop zone. Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest, QPR and Burton Albion all avoided relegation by margins WAY too close for comfort.

Of the three sides relegated to the Championship last season, Newcastle fared the best ... winning the league title. Norwich looked good early but never recovered from a rough January/February patch and finished a pretty boring 8th. Aston Villa went through an ownership change, 2 manager changes and massive player infusions in both transfer windows before they found their sea legs in February/March and finished 13th.

Villa's draw on Sunday also kept Brighton & Hove from winning the Championship.

In the Premier League era, Newcastle have been relegated twice. Both times, they were only down for 1 year, wining the Championship both times.

Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough

Boro are relegated.

Chelsea can win the league with a win at West Brom on Friday.

It's a 3 team race for the last relegation spot:

Hull - 34 points - at Crystal Palace, home to Spurs
Swansea - 35 points - at Sunderland, home to West Brom
Crystal Palace - 38 points - home to Hull, at Man U

Swansea play on Saturday, Hull and Palace don't play until Sunday. If Swansea wins, Hull are relegated with a loss. For all practical matters, a draw won't help much either, they're 5 goals worse than Swansea.

Yup. Jack Grealish's extra time goal made him a Newcastle hero. Sort of like Graham Zusi is for Mexican fans.

We have a re-scheduled game today. I think this is from February when Southampton was in the EFL Cup final.

Southampton v. Arsenal 2:45/19:45 NBCSN

Southampton 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal has clawed its way back into the top 4 discussion, sitting 5th, 1 point ahead of Man U, 3 points behind Man City, 4 behind Liverpool with 1 game in hand.

Liverpool - at West Ham, home to Middlesbrough
Man City - home to Leicester, home to West Brom, at Watford
Arsenal - at Stoke (which has been a house of horrors for them recently), home to Sunderland, home to Everton
Man U - at Spurs, at Southampton, home to Crystal Palace

Look .. all the Arsene out stuff was always going to end with them at least flirting with Champions League placement again. It just had to.

Matchweek 37. Two matches on Friday; Chelsea will win the league with a win at The Hawthorns.

For the 2nd time in 3 years, Chelsea are champions. They'll have the honor guard at the Bridge on Monday when they play Watford.
