2016-17 Premier League Thread

Hull 2-0 Watford
Bournemouth 4-0 Boro
Swansea 2-0 Stoke
West Ham 0-0 Everton

Wins for both Hull & Swansea down the bottom, will have Palace & Burnley looking over their shoulders again.

Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Benteke with both for Palace.

Win probably makes Palace safe. They have a 7 point gap to the relegation zone (plus a game in hand).

Looks like the last relegation spot will be between Swansea, Hull and maybe a Burnley team that's been sliding for a while now.

Palace have 38 points, which has ensured safety in all but 3 seasons since 2002-03 season.

Burnley have 4 left, @Palace, West Brom, @Bournemouth, West Ham. They've only earned 4 away points all season.
Hull are @Southampton, Sunderland, @Palace, Spurs
Swansea are @Man U, Everton, @Sunderland, West Brom

Newcastle picked up the 2nd automatic promotion spot from the Championship. Their 4-1 win over Preston North End, combined with Huddersfield Town's loss to Fulham on Saturday gave them a 10 point lead with 3 matches to go. With 2 matches to go, the playoff spots are down to a 5 team race. Reading have 79 points, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town have 78, Fulham have 76. Leeds United sit 7th with 73. Huddersfield have 3 matches left. Reading could conceivably miss the playoffs, they only have a +1 goal differential. If they lose out and Leeds win out and the other 3 get 1 win each, Reading miss the playoffs.

We have some midweek makeup matches coming up, including the Manchester Derby:

Tuesday:
Chelsea v. Southampton 2:45/19:45 NBCSN

Wednesday:
Arsenal v. Leicester 2:45/19:45
Middlesbrough v. Sunderland
Crsytal Palace v. Spurs 3:00/20:00 NBCSN

Thursday:
Man City v. Man U 3:00/15:00 NBCSN

Seeing as how they never should have been in that muck pit in the first place with their roster, good.

Arsenal 1-0 Leicester
Middlesbrough 1-0 Sunderland
Crystal Palace 0-1 Spurs

Arsenal get an 86th minute own goal to grab the win. Boro score early and hang on to help their slim survival chances, still 4 points from safety. Sunderland still have 5 games left but are now 10 points back.

Man City 0-0 Man U

Fellaini will see the stands for the next 3 matches after being sent off for head butting Aguero.

Match week 35 and it ends with the last North London Derby at White Hart Lane.

I don't know what is up with Fellaini, he seems to be on the verge of doing something stupid every game these last 6 months. Every time he goes in for a tackle I wince expecting him to do something horrific.

He was always clumsy at Everton and a risk of getting sent off for that but at the moment he seems angry and out of control most of the time.

Sunderland 0-1 Bournemouth
Southampton 0-0 Hull
West Brom 0-1 Leicester
Stoke 0-0 West Ham

Sunderland are relegated.

Everton 0-3 Chelsea
Boro 2-2 Man City
Man Utd 1-1 Swansea

Race for the final 2 spots in the top 4 is tightening up

Liverpool - 34 games, 66 points, +28
Man City - 34 games, 66 points, +28
Man Utd - 34 games, 65 points, +26

And if Arsenal can win their 2 games in hand they move to 66 points as well

Arsenal - 32 games, 60 points, +24

Catching up on the lower divisions in the Football League as their seasons wrap up

Championship: One match left. Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle are promoted, Albion have a 1 point lead for the championship, Newcastle have a 8 goal advantage. Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town have clinched spots in the playoffs but the seedings are TBD with 1 match left. Fulham has essentially clinched the last spot with a 3 point lead over Leeds United but a 13 goal advantage in goal differential. Rotherham United and Wigan have been relegated. Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest are tied on points but Nottingham has a 1 goad advantage. Birmingham City is still in the mix for relegation, with a 2 point lead. Blackburn are at 10th place Brentford, Nottingham Forest are home to 16th place Ipswich Town and Birmingham are at 17th place Bristol City.

League 1: Season complete. Sheffield United are champions, Bolton Wanderers get the 2nd promotion place. Scun thorpe United, Fleetwood Town, Bradford City and Millwall are in the playoffs. Port Vale, Swindon Town, Coventry City and Chesterfield are relegated.

League 2: One match left. Plymouth Argyle, Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth are promoted. Luton Town and Exeter City have qualified for the playoffs. The last 2 playoffs are a jumble. Carlisle United and Blackpool have the spots now. But 5 other teams still have a chance with 12th place Mansfield Town trailing 6th place Carlisle United by 3 points with a 4 goal advantage. Leyton Orient have been relegated. Hartlepool United are in the other spot but a 2 goal win at home to Doncaster, combined with a loss or draw by Newport County will save them.

National League: Season complete. FA Cup quarterfinalists Lincoln City are champions. Tranmere Rovers, Forest Green Rovers, Dagenham & Redbridge and Aldershot Town are in the playoffs.
