Re: Nylander apparently being bad five-on-five:

Leafs top possession player tonight: Nylander.

and jvr tries to force a pass instead of just playing it safe.

Probably noticed someone breathing on him. :D

And +1 on Marner, when leafman said we should get this guy(well before the draft) and i saw some of the highlights, i liked it right away(looked at Strome's game and didnt really like)..but man he's even better(could end up best Leaf ever).

That was the most stress-free Leaf third period I've seen in a while. The Rangers had a few chances, but the Leafs didn't let them carry the play, and didn't seem to have any panic in their game tonight. Pretty solid start by Andersen tonight too.

Hopefully McElhinney can give us a good start tomorrow, and hopefully that Kapanen injury isn't as bad as it looked.

One of the most fun parts of this team right now is going into each game wondering which one of Nylander, Marner or Matthews is going to have themselves a night. Seems like it's pretty rare these days that at least one of them doesn't have a dominant game, and tonight it was Marner & Nylander.

Nylander was the best Leaf 5 on 5 and Marner the best 5 on 4 tonight. Which is a change from what we've seen for most of this year. Kind of refreshing to see they can mix it up. They're both just unreal players.

Massive game tomorrow.. A four point swing for a playoff spot and we're leaving it up to Mac. A win and they're tied, a loss and they're stuck 4. Fingers crossed that he can be okay just okay.

Eh, they'll be lucky to sniff the playoffs in 5 years.

BTW, how is Buffalo and Winnipeg doing? They're years ahead of the Leafs.

Honestly...they're kind of shit even with Schneider playing well, but they were also shit last year. They have a much better building block going forward now though.

They kind of need to tank.

The good goaltending has kept them from getting a top pick.

Doesn't Nylander have generally solid advanced stats this year anyways?

more than solid. amongst the best on the team all year.

what's killing willy so far is that his 5.1 on ice team shooting percentage is the lowest on the team, and unsustainably low.

give him a normal oish% and his stats look as pretty as anyone's.

and even with the ridiculously low oish%....57 point pace. Kid would be on a 65-70 point pace if that was normalized.

Freddy had a real solid game outside of that final softie. He really came up big in the third with the Rangers pressing. That's been missing many nights the Leafs have coughed up leads.

Real nice game from Nylander.

Team came out strong after the extended layoff. Not a fan of the bye week but might be extra beneficial to a young team like this dealing with the grind for the first time.

Rangers ... well, the shooting percentage wasn't with them tonight. Not a great looking team.
