Claude Julien is new coach of the Habs

It does seem all a bit anticlimatic. A defensive minded coach that the Habs usually had no trouble beating.

Perfect!

In Boston, Julien was criticized for being Therrien like.

For all that Julien accomplished during his Boston tenure, including a Stanley Cup victory in 2011, he did have his share of critics. Mostly, they said he was too conservative, too defensive-minded, too unforgiving of mistakes that led to goals against — especially if the mistakes were made by youngsters.

I think you can probably say that about 29 other head coaches.

One thing Julien does is that he leans on his best players.

You won't see a close distribution of ice between the 4 centers for instance.

If he's consistent we should be seeing galchenyuk getting used at 18-20 minutes a game.

And Mitchell at about 8-10 minutes maximum rather than the 13 to 14 minutes he got under Therrien

Sorry guys:

Pierre LeBrun:
Further to Bob McKenzie on Habs asking permission from Florida, Gallant hasn't spoken to Bergevin or Habs. So perhaps was plan B...

Conor McKenna:
Bob McKenzie just told us he believes Claude Julien will be making at least $4.1 million, for as much as 5 years.

Now MB has to get Julien some player upgrades, to go along with the coaching upgrade, otherwise Molson is wasting $25.4 million.

Take a risk to make a play.

Throw caution to the wind.

And if that doesn’t sound like Claude Julien, well, that’s probably the point.

“I’d rather see – we’re going to err on the side of hopefully aggression, playing on our toes early on here and then, you know, we’re going to have to dial it back in,” Cassidy told reporters after last night’s 6-3 win over the Sharks, his first game as interim coach.

“The day will come when we pay the price for that aggression and we’ll see from there when we find that happy medium. Tonight it worked out for us. I liked that our D were up and assertive in the neutral zone, killing plays, and trying to make quick-ups. Some nights it’s going to bite you so you have to find that balance, but we do want to play this way. We’ve said that for the last two days. We want to play on our toes and be a little more assertive in our overall game and see where it goes.”

It’s all part of Cassidy’s opportunity to put his “imprint” on the Bruins. That was the word GM Don Sweeney used Tuesday after firing Julien, who’d been on the job since 2007.

And yet, all of Boston's newspaper this morning or saying this one will come to bite the bruins's in the ass. That Julien is an upgrade for Therrien and they wouldn't be suprised if Julien wins a cup with the Habs. That Julien was a class act, one of the best in the league.

One thing that makes it weird is that Julien was the coach of Boston when the rivalry with them was absolute pure hatred, even more than the Neely and Kyle McLaren playoff series (too young to know the Orr and Don Cherry years).

Boston media knows that the culprit is the poor asset management that the team has had in the last few years, it's not on the coach.

That lineup is not a lineup that you can say is a sure bet for the playoffs...it's a bubble team that rightfully hovers around a wild card spot at best

Molson gets another French coach, so he avoids a mutiny in Montreal, and Molson booze keeps flying off the shelves.
