How do the Leafs get punished for the refs mistake. They're supposed to put someone in there.

Apparently it's Babcock's mistake. The rule says they don't need to put someone in the box right away, they can wait to do it at any stoppage during the 5 min. It's up to them to send someone to serve it. Weird rule.

...and an explanation of what happened:
Basically, Babcock figured that he'd put someone in the box later in the kill, but then there wasn't a whistle for the whole five minutes.

Refs actually ****ed up then. They let us ice it.

Yep. We iced it at least twice after the five minutes expired, and they didn't call it.
But then it would have been better if they did, because then we could've put a fifth guy on the ice.

Although you can't sub after an icing. **** I'm confused.
They probably werent aware of the rule since it rarely happens.
Has it ever happened...like recently ?
