I suspect they also want to lessen the chances that 2000 seats will go unsold for a 2nd round playoff game.
Brings back memories of the Greensboro black curtains......

Frankly this is embarrassing for a Canadian team.

Basically they are reducing their capacity from 18,500ish to 17,000 ish. Black tarps will cover the seats that are 'removed'.

Now the Canes attendance is not great, there is no way to sugar coat it, but, it doesn't help that there are 18k+ seats at PNC. I don't doubt that we will fill all of the seats for playoffs games when the Canes make the playoffs this season, but PNC is bigger than the Canes (or any small-mid market NHL team) really needs. The new trend for pro sports is actually to have less seats. Of course that is a weak excuse for Ottawa, after all, its Canada, where all southern NHL teams should be moved to (?)

A shame he wasn't mentioned in the article, considering the author made a special note about others who have won the Cup for some reason. RIP Big Joe and all those lost far too young that day.

    5 RFAs still without deals:

    Marcus Foligno Minnesota Wild
    David Pastrnak Boston Bruins
    Nikita Zadorov Colorado Avalanche
    Josh Anderson Columbus Blue Jackets
    Andreas Athanasiou Detroit Red Wings

Bo Horvat re-signed for 6 years, $33 million with Vancouver

Petteri Lindbohm re-signed a 1 year, 2 way deal, $650k/$200k with St. Louis

Damon Severson re-signed for 6 years $25 million with New Jersey

The Sharks also signed UFA DMan Brandon Mishinter to a 1 year, 2 way deal ($650k, $150k, $210k minimum guarantee). He was on a 1 way 1 year deal with the Blackhawks last season and ended up playing the entire season in the AHL. And the Sharks signed Dman Jabor Middleton, who was a minor league free agent, to a 3 year entry level deal.

I could see Zadorov and Athanasiou following through on their earlier threats of signing in the KHL and then playing in the Olympics. Pastrnak is going to get his big contract, it's only a matter of time.

Scratch another unsigned RFA off the list. The Wild signed Foligno to a 4 year/$11.5 million deal.

Arizona Coyotes had to cancel a preseason game against the LAKings-- bad ice following a concert. Time to get building and ice crews up and running...

The Yellow Knights are undefeated! They have scored more than twice as many goals as their opponents. In your face Montreal.
