Around the League - Regular Season 2018-19

Re: Around the League - Offseason 2018

In 2011 when Atlanta moved to Winnipeg, Bettman basically told the fans support the team or else. Yet he has no problem with a team in a market that isn't viable helping others skirt the rules of the salary cap by allowing them to take on bogus contracts to meet the cap floor. A commissioner with integrity would not allow that to happen.

He cant stomach failed USA franchises . Carolina and Zona are a mess .

Re: Around the League - Offseason 2018

I don't find Carolina to be a bad location for a franchise, but if the best you've had over the last decade is one year of above average play, while virtually every other year the team is middling and complete trash? Yeah, it's not a wonder people stopped showing up.

Arizona needs to go ASAP, though. Do them a favor and move them to Houston.

Re: Around the League - Offseason 2018

Poor Arizona never had a good team though. Only one year out of 21 have they made it past the first round. And they've missed the playoffs 13 times. Vegas already won more playoff rounds than the Arizona franchise.

The biggest problem with Phoenix isn't even the fanbase. It's the arena situation.

The arena they have now is in the middle of nowhere and they don't seem to be able to get one of the cities (like Glendale) to build a new one for them.

It doesn't help that they've had shit teams and shitty ownership forever.

Yeah, everything is shit about that franchise. It could theoretically be a good market, but they sure didn't make it easy for their fans.

Plus, they’re owned by u guy who screwed a friend of mine from law school when said friend left his law firm about a decade ago.

Yeah. Their fan support was fine while they were playing in the old arena. The move to Glendale and subsequent ownership issues have killed them.

Peter Karmanos ran out of money in 2011, eventually going so far as illegally "borrowing" money from his children's trust funds once his personal income dried up. He was too proud/stubborn/stupid to sell the Hurricanes when he should have and instead chose to run the franchise on the cheap for nearly 7 years. Yeah. That'll make ANY franchise look like crap. Up to that point, the Hurricanes had established themselves nicely and the market was supporting them well after a rough first couple of years.

Don't worry Jeff, you've now got the legendary Rick ****ing Dudley on the job in Carolina. When he came to Montreal, the Habs finished 28th in the league and had the third overall pick. When he left, the Habs were 28th in the league and had the third overall pick. He can do a mean bench press and I think Bergy will miss whatever "intangibles and character" he brought to Montreal. Actually, Rick will probably miss the big pay cheque that he was given for being one of Bergevin's toadies.

Look ... given the lack of work rate from our front office under Ron Francis (not a single player for player at the NHL level in four freaking years, bad contracts out the wazoo, Darling, Lack ... ugh) Dudley has actually been a breath of fresh air in our personnel department. Sad, but true.

Dudley already made a good trade . . . for Dougie Hamilton. That's more than he did here in six years.

You now have the ugliest member of any front office in the league.

Dudley also apparently advised MB to sign Marchessault in the summer of 2016 either the GM, mental midget or both didn’t want him and Panthers got a gift

Only two RFAs left to sign in Rychel and McCarron and right now they're $7 million under the cap.
