Around the League - Regular Season 2018-19

Thats our Drouin deal , hoping a player at 22-23 becomes what was expected .
Because that never happens in the NHL - see Markus Naslund, John LeClair and a plethora of other players. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of fit & environment - that’s where teams with good pro-scouting separate themselves from the masses

Agreed if you producing at 20-21 your value is also very high or higher .

My point is all these top upside picks have solid value at 18-19 prior to making a name in this league .

How many of you would of traded KK 5 games into the season for Sam Reinhart?

.

Except that's not even close to the same deal.

Let's start with the fact that KK looks considerably batter than Sergachev did at this point of their respective rookie seasons. Sergachev never looked like he belonged in the NHL at 18.

Now for Drouin v Reinhart... not even close... at all.

We traded for Drouin when he just came off a 73gp 21g 53p (82gp 24g 60) season at 21 years old.
Reinhart at 21 put up 79gp 17g 47p (82gp 18g 49p)

Also, Drouin was coming off a really good season. He had already started to break out.

Its the same deal , SR was coming off a 25 goal season 50 point season trending upwards . Plus he wasnt a douchebag like JD early in his career .

His team was dysfunctional and a mess and he still produced .

KK had the same upside credentials , don`t sugar coat the comparison .

One has 1C upside the other top pair D upside .

We had no clue what KK was going to give us at 18 after 1-2 weeks of the season .

No team was giving TB a top prospect for JD other than us cause he was French to appease the local media and fan base .

You're the one sugar coating the comparison. Drouin is better than Reinhart and KK is better than Sergachev.

You made a bad comparison... I posted stats to show that.

Even if you go off of Reinhart's 22 year old season he scored 82gp 25g 50p which is 10 points short of Drouin's pace in his 21 year old season.

And again... no way anyone trades 18 year old Kotkaniemi for 18 year old Sergachev.

Your way off base HP .

2 players with very similar numbers and SR had better GPG stats .

Both were trending upwards , we arent comparing Marner to SR here where its night and day . The difference is miniscule

2 top 3 picks that havent hit their draft slot .

No one is comparing KK to Chevy . Both at 18 have considerable trade value just like Zadina , Hughes , Svechnikov , or Ktactchuk .

None of those guys would of been traded for a JD type

Reinhart in his 22 year old season was 10 points shy of Drouin's pace from his 21 year old season.... but sure.

Who knows if JD was going to be 10 points better after a full season , its all speculation.

There is no way JD was considerably better than SR coming off 1 decent year when SR`s point totals improved every year and their career numbers were very close.

No different than Max vs Galchenyuk. Both had similar PPG numbers but different styles . One was bigger with better hands . Max was a more complete player with playmaking skills and more compete .

He had 3 more points in 9 less games. It's not a stretch at all to have expected him to be 10 points ahead if they both played 82. It would be just as likely that he would have finished more than 10 ahead than less.

I don't believe there are many people who would have preferred summer 2018 Reinhart over summer 2017 Drouin... like almost nobody.

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Yeo has been relieved of his duties; Craig Berube has been named interim head coach.

trying to make drouin a centre was a mistake

Exactly, this guy is fragile defensively as it is, giving him the center position with the defensive assignment that comes with it was just not putting him in a situation to succeed.

Hello, Joel Quenville.
We’ll see - if both STL or Edm make coaching changes but only have interims in place may be an indication of Armstrong & Chia-pet’s being on the hot seat with ownership unwilling to bail them out in signing big$ deal with Quenneville
