Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem 2016/17 season

I remember vividly last year when Philip Cantin asked MB why this team has trouble scoring and if it has something to do with the system or talent.

MB got extremely offended and became defensive and condescending in answering the question.

Has MB earned the right to act that way when his own report card seems to be more of a fail this year.

Why hasn't the offense improved? How come this organization finds itself without a #1 center and even a #2 center? How come player development is non existent?

I hope that the reporters don't let this guy off the hook, MB uses an intimidation factor to keep reporters in line but hopefully some reporters will ask the hard questions.

If the press asks about offense in general, it'll be easier for him to evade "playoff scoring is down, Rangers scored 1 more goal than us, powerhouse Capitals scored very little, blah, blah, blah..

Gotta ask him specifics -- did you think Danault/Pleks as your 1-2 punch was enough to strike fear in opponents?

These end of season scrums are pointless. Just a lot of GM-speak that means nothing anyway.

yep. But here is an outside chance Bergy's ego delivers 1 or 2 interesting soundbytes, especially if pressed. The media may be more antagonistic than usual today. They have some ammo "It's on me", MT firing, PK trade, no centers, etc

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

How come you didn't acquire any offence at the deadline. Just 1 g and 1 a in 50 games by the three forwards you picked up

"It's impossible to acquire that type of player by trade . . . have to draft them . . . Trevor, you're fired . . . enjoy your workout."

"Hanzal for a 1st and 2nd rounder" How did that turn out for the Wild? Next question.

Patrick Eaves 12 goals, 5 assists, 17 points in 24 games for Anaheim. Traded for a conditional 2nd rounder. (Includes 3 points in 4 playoff games)

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Thomas Vanek, 10 points in 20 games, acquired for a third rounder.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Drew Stafford. 10 points in 24 games, acquired for a 6th rounder.

Starting to remind me of the media revolution vs Serge Savard's Habs post 1992 playoff loss & their dependence on defensive hockey over offense...

Hard to believe that the Canadiens are close to wasting Price's prime years as a goalie because they can't score more than 2 goals a game in the playoffs. Ridiculous.

I have agreed with this for years. He does not like skill guys because he wasn't one. He hated Leblanc because he was a rich boy from Pincourt who went to Harvard. He hated Subban because he was flashy. He hates Galchenyuk for same reason.

He would prefer a bunch of guys from Pt St. Charles who were poor and who had to fight for every shift.

Yeah, that's the real shame. We're not asking to go out and get an offense like the Leafs have. We just needed a couple more goals and we'd have won the series.

That's why I'm more in favor of dealing Price..should there be real market value. I'm very very weary of offering 7-8 yr deals @ considerable cap hits to 30+ players, in a league that's tailored for 25 & under

Like last year, I honestly couldn't give less of a shit about what The Charlatan has to say. Nothing he ever says is even remotely truthful.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Drew Stafford. 10 points in 24 games, acquired for a 6th rounder.

was screaming for him after Boston acquired him. He sucks, but at least has shown the ability to score in his career. We gave up a 4th for King and Stafford went for a 6th? Makes my head hurt.

The other thing that pissed me off was the Habs had available cap space and didn't use it. Habs are a team that should always be spending to the cap
