One last thought on this. Velluci took one look at the roster and said to himself that if he didn't screw it up, it could be a ticket to a bigger job. Not a bad idea on his part.

Haven't seen anything since then that would suggest that his role has changed. Of course, the hirings of a new goaltending coach and a new AHL coach could change that.

Yeah ... but consultant can mean virtually anything. I think there's a temptation to read too much into those announcements. For all we know all they wanted Joseph to do was scout a few games as a second pair of eyes and give suggestions to the GC or the kids' junior coaches as to what the guys needed to be working on.

That question has been answered. The Canes have hired Paul Schonfelder as the new minor league goalie consultant. He spent the last 3 seasons as the goalie coach of the Ottawa 67s and also worked as a goalie coach for Hockey Canada. Not included in the release but tweeted by Cory Lavalette, CuJo is no longer employed but the Canes.
