Habs announce Markov WILL NOT be back next season

U do not give a player who's 35+ yrs of age with multiple major knee operations anything more than a 1-yr deal in a hard cap world - it's a probability game, risk of not playing at continued level for contract length is far greater than actually doing it.

As a non-Habs GM was quoted this week in a Marc De Foy article "the reason Jagr & Markov are not signed is the league's never been faster & no team will give a player their age a multi year deal"

Never fall in love with an asset - a player is simply a commodity to be bartered for greater gain, which in this case is cap space

It has nothing to do with "falling in love" -- don't try to spin it that way. That actually pisses me off when you say things like that.

This has to do with Montreal being worse now. Markov was and would have still been a big part of the offence.

May want to take a look at Markov's playoff stats last couple of tries....3Pts in 18 GP vs 10Pts in 20 GP for Weber

Weber career playoff 0.48 PPG vs 0.35 Markov

What does this have to to with me saying that Markov had a higher PPG than Weber last year?

Your ability to spin things is comically poor.

People talk about Markov like he's irreplaceable. He isn't. He's very replaceable and for less money. Besides, their area of need is at center, not on the blue line. We've got Weber, Alzner. Petry, Schlemko, Benn and the Jurabek guy from Europe to play in front of the best goalie in hockey. We don't need Markov and we sure as hell don't need him at $6 million over two years. What we do need is a centerman who can be the pivot on one of the first two lines. That's where Bergevin needs to spend that $9 million.

This is a pretty bad post. Nearly all the guys you listed are super mediocre.

LOL.

The Cup is ours!

Get Drouin, lose Radulov. Wash.

Lose Sergachev, Markov, Emelin. Bring In Schlemko, Jerabek Streit. LOSS.

Carey Price and Al Montoya in net, status quo.

This team is worst than last years right now and this is a team that lost to the rangers in 6 while having home ice.

It's like all montreal sport teams are trying to outdo each other in how shitty they can become.

If you're confident no team is going to give Markov a two year deal, then why close the door? Why not leave it open for him to circle back?

Cap space is king...last I checked 2018 playoffs don't start today or tomorrow....

This seems more than just a contract negotiation, the org has concluded Markov doesn't fit their mold of player...

Ironically your initial post was spin. You act like his missed games aren't part of the issue.

They protected him by not playing him in back to backs

He only played top line minutes after other options failed

He was no longer on the PK

He was essentially becoming a PP specialist who disappears in the playoffs. He was a rapidly declining asset.

Nope. His PPG being higher is fact. Not spin.

And last I checked, we're July 27th, not June 27th.

Who, pray say, is available as a free agent that fits our need?

And if nobody is available, what assets do we have to trade to acquire players we can spend said cap space on.

(Don't think too hard about it, both questions have the same answer.)
