2018
1st round pick - Montréal
2nd round pick - Montréal
2nd round pick - Montréal (from Chicago - Danault trade)
2nd round pick - Montréal (from Washington - Eller trade)
2nd round pick - Montréal (from Toronto - Plekanec trade)
3rd round pick - Montréal
4th round pick - Montréal (from Winnipeg - Morrow trade)
4th round pick - Los Angeles (from Montréal - King trade) - If Kings make playoffs this stays with us?
5th round pick - Montréal
5th round pick - Montréal (from Edmonton - Montoya trade) - Likely to be a 4th rounder
5th round pick - Montréal (from Los Angeles - Mitchell trade)* If Kings miss this is our pick?

Is this what a draft pick situation looks like?

4 second rounders with two of them being pretty high with Caps and Leafs not exactly top of the league either.

Your forgetting 2 seconds for Clutterbuck , 2 seconds for Callahan on draft day .

Yep, the mandate in Montreal, whether stated publicly or not, is win now. Make money now. Get playoff gates now. This is how a GM or coach keeps his job; not by undertaking protracted tear-down and rebuild projects that last for years, however much they may be needed. It's like the old jalopy that you need to get to work in. You can't afford to properly fix the car or buy a new one so you patch it up as cheaply and as quickly as possible just good enough that it runs.

But eventually you have to sell it for scrap and take the bus.
