Tom Wilson has better wheels but plays the same game that Lucic did and he definitely can fit on any team .

If Oils gave him a proper 3-4 year deal he gets moved easily this summer

Guys like Tom Wilson and Lucic would be expected to be among our best players.

That's where things go sideways with players like that.

Anyone suggesting we deal for Lucic either assume we steal that trade somehow (which I doubt) or is just insane. That Contract is horrible and Lucic is on the descending slope.

yep, it would have to involve getting rid of Alzner + getting draft picks in return.

I must be watching the wrong games, when I watch him play other teams seem to be a bit intimidated by him and are reluctant to engage physically

"Some of this could probably be mitigated by getting Lucic to play to his strengths, allowing him to dominate along the boards and be a playmaker on his line, so not playing with McDavid"

    Hello?

I don't think anyone disputes that.

It's what is EDM willing to give up to accept this horrible contract.

For a team so desperate for talented prospects a starting point would be #10 overall

    Quinn Hughes it is.

Lots of comments have been made by the team that makes me think this way as well.

And I'm glad they finally saw the light but seriously, what took them so long? It's all stuff we knew for a while.

I would prefer Zadina, but Hughes seems fine.

My major issue is that we shouldn't be a team that is desperate for a puck moving d-man (see: Subban and Sergachev). MB is having to draft a certain way to recover from the mistakes he's made. They have so many holes - and many were caused directly by MB.

Yup those 2 gives us 2 solid puck movers for 10-15 years .

I like Zadina but I think Hughes has a higher ceiling

    apparently

nobody is intimidated by him anymore and he loses the majority of his 1 on 1 battles - hell the coaches we talking about getting him away from his weakness of having the puck on the wall

lucic was moved off mcdavid line at the end of the year and he bitched about it and he did not produce either

then we will end up with a bunch of fancy pants guys who can skate but who will be battered in the playoffs, watch we will take all of the same type of player, we never take a balanced approach

What, exactly, does his prior production have to do with his current production? His career production is utterly irrelevant. Pleks has a lot of career points too, can't play anymore. Lucic can't play anymore due to age, body decline and speed of play increasing every year.

Nobody's calling him a goon, but the best thing he could be at this point of his career is closer to a goon than a top-6 player.

Hockey isn't about muscling out players anymore. It's about puck movement and speed. There are still elements of muscling players out, sure, but it's less and less prevelent in today's game.
Elite goaltending will hide a lot of a bad team's flaws and make them look a lot better than they truly are. That's why Carey Price is the single most important player to his team in the NHL.

My new poorly written out thoughts on this season's Montreal Canadiens.

Maybe I'm just a member of the old guard but do you seem to notice that whenever we as a team go for a certain type of player, we have no variety of player. If Dummins is setting out our draft strategy, I would not be shocked if every player we take is under 6'0. Then when we lose in the post season to a bigger team, we will overreact and take all big slow footed guys.

Admittedly I’ve only seen Hughes play a few games at Michigan but I was not blown away. He was was good but . . .
