Checkers this past week:

Sat Jan 12th Toronto L 4-1. Neds with the loss, Poturalski with the goal.

Sun Jan 13th Toronto L 3-1. Neds with the loss, Poturalski with the goal. (yes that is correct and not just a copy/paste error)

That is 4 straight losses for the Checkers as their offense has suddenly dried up. They sit 5th in the AHL Atlantic division, currently out of a playoff spot now. They need to get things turned around this week. The play FOUR home games this coming week, Bridgeport on Tue/Wed and Rochester on Sat/Sun. Bridgeport just passed the Checkers for 4th in the division, Rochester is the 3rd best team in the AHL Eastern Conference.

I went to Charlotte for the two games against the Marlies this weekend. The team was basically owned by the Marlies. Scores were close (4-1, 3-1) with some empty net goals, but it basically mirrored games in Raleigh. Checkers outshoot Toronto, but most are non-threatening. The speed of the play was not great. Only saw reall urgency in the third period of the Friday night game.

Saarela got hurt Friday (did not see it). No one really stood out, except maybe Potularski (who looks like a long term AHL scorer). Roy and Gauthier did nothing to standout. Zykov also was not noticeable. The D was fine in general, but Carrick has some Faulk 17-18 style brain cramps. Foegele did look decent on some kills (a couple short handed chances), but not really noticeable at even strength.

Toronto is good, and the checkers have lots of injuries, but the fact that the passion and will to win looked an awful lot like the Canes when they are off their game was the most depressing.

Tolchinsky was walking around in a cast.

Wow, the puppies and rainbows of Thursday around this org must have been packed up with Dundon's luggage and headed back to Dallas because the overall stench and bad news from both the NHL and AHL teams of this org sure have reached record levels this past weekend.

there was a baseball game where they did not let anyone in , I want to say in Baltimore? I think it was due to the rioting .

Also a minor league baseball team had "nobody night" where they had no fans on purpose.

Siena College played a home basketball game in an empty arena because a player contracted measles. Empty stadiums are a staple of European soccer tournaments too, with the team getting a stadium ban for fan actions at away matches. Legia Warsaw played Real Madrid in an empty stadium in the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League.
