A look around the world at how some of our former players are doing:
Eric Staal (NHL MIN) 20 Games 7 Goals 11 Assists +6 *** A little bit better looking numbers than last season. Has been a huge bargain for Minny
Kris Versteeg (NHL CGY) 29 Games 3 Goals 5 Assists -6
Andrej Nestrasil (KHL Nizhnekamsk) 33 Games 6 Goals 13 Assists -7
Riley Nash (NHL BOS) 19 Games 1 Goal 4 Assists -1 *** Still a decent NHL 4th line Penalty killer.
Ron Hainsey (NHL TOR) 22 Games 1 Goal 9 Assists +6 *** Looks like he might significantly exceed my points prediction...heading for over 30 points. My Ron Hainsey stat of the month....Hainsey leads the NHL in Short Handed TOI at 108:06 so far this season (that's 4:54 SH TOI per game). 2nd place is teammate Nikita Zaitsev (87:21 3:58 per game). Closest non-Leaf is Erik Johnson (79:55 4:12)
Chris Terry (AHL Lavel (MTL)) 15 Games 8 Goals 8 Assists -9
Jay McClement (Swiss-SL Olten) 6 Games 0 Goals 2 Assists +3 *** The Swiss-SL is a minor Swiss league
Ryan Murphy (AHL Iowa (MIN) 15 Games 1 Goal 6 Assists -1
Nathan Gerbe (Swiss-A Geneve) 13 Games 1 Goal 4 Assists -4 *** Gerbe also somehow has managed to get 79 PIM He had only 22 in 26 games for Geneve last season, so something major must have happened) Unlike McClement, Gerbe is playing in the top Swiss league.
Brad Malone
(AHL Bakersfield) 8 Games 2 Goals 1 Assist -1
(NHL Edmontont) 7 Games No points Even
James Wisniewski (DEL-2 Kassel) 10 Games 5 Goals 15 Assists +7 *** DEL-2 is the 2nd tier pro league in Germany
Viktor Stalberg (Swiss-A Zug) 22 Games 12 Goals 11 assists
Matt Tennyson (NHL BUF) 14 Games No points -8
Ty Rattie (AHL Bakersfield (EDM) 14 Games 7 Goals 5 Assist -8
Martin Frk (NHL DET) 18 Games 6 Goals 3 Assists -5
Zack Boychuk (KHL Bratislava) 12 Games 3 Goals 8 Assists -3
And finally
Zac Dalpe
(NHL CBJ) 10 Games No points -3
(AHL Cleveland) 1 Game No points +1
Not sure how Dalpe stays in the league but there he is, now at 28, still getting some NHL games in.
If you are wondering about still Canes property but probably never going to be signed Gregory Hofmann:
Gregory Hofmann (Swiss-A Lugano) 16 Games 11 Goals 4 Assists *** Has significantly cooled off. After drafting him in 2011, under the old CBA rules, the Canes have NHL rights to Hofmann for 10 seasons after his draft year, after which if he ever wanted to play in the NHL and any NHL team wanted him, he would be a Group 5 UFA. So the Canes theoretically have Hofmann's rights until 2021. The current CBA forces you to sign your 18 or 19 year old Euro Draft pick by the 4th June after he is drafted (2nd June for Euro players drafted at age 20 or older). So Euro drafted players are no longer tied for 10 seasons to the NHL team that drafted them..as long as they were drafted under the new CBA.
Eddie Lack (NHL CGY) 1-2-0 5.29 GAA .813 Sv% *** Nice work Eddie!!!!
