Game 2/82 - GDT - Rangers @ Leafs, 7pm HNIC - Bowe Leafs Bowe

I get that 15 goals in the first two games is going to lead to a lot of smug people saying obvious things like "Well, the Leafs aren't going to score 7 goals every game!"... but given that only Pittsburgh and Washington had more 4+ goal games last year and we added Marleau... we're probably going to outscore any defensive issues we might have this year.

remember when worrying about our defense that the jets and rags are 2 of the best offensive teams in the league.

My old Rangers friend, who used to love to come over for Rags games, somehow had chores last night. heh

The Leafs, so far, are a scary dangerous team. Goalies are trembling. They may well be able to outscore their weaknesses.

Just watched Babs' post game interview. He was really soft on the team. Didn't expect that. Seemed to put a lot on the fact that this was a home opener and crazy things happen often.

1. Bozak line

2. Rosen

Per Mirtle, Babs needs to lean more heavily on the Kadri and Matthews lines, if he's not going to break up the Bozak one.

It seemed like they just lost focus after going up 5-1. Cant really fault them for letting up after outscoring opponents 12-3 in 4 periods.

But yeah they got back to that relentless attack pretty quickly and sealed the deal.

I'm more impressed by the composure to re-take over the game than concerned about the 2nd period. That is something that wasn't there most of last year.

Bring up marinch and simply platoon him and Borg. Forget about Rosen. He's not good enough

I think he shows enough to give him a couple more games. He's still a young player adjusting to the league. Borgman has been better but I don't think you send Rosen down after one mediocre performance.

Who didn't see this coming from you?

Marincin has had his chance to prove he belongs and he flopped. You can't have a defensive specialist who gets beat like a dog in front of the net, can't separate opposition players from the puck, etc.

Unless we're in a dire situation injury-wise, Martin Marincin should never pull on a Leaf jersey again. He's received endless opportunities over the last couple of years, and has proven he doesn't have what it takes to play like an NHL-caliber defenseman with any kind of consistency.

For this season, barring any additions to our blueline, they should be rotating Borgman, Carrick, Rosen & Dermott in and out of that bottom pairing, and eventually stick with whichever two defenseman look the best.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Rosen simply cannot play hockey. Marinch is perfect as a very capable 7. Rosen stinks.

do you post at HFBoards? This is the type of posting I read over there. I like Forum Ice because this where the smart people post LOL

Rosen was better than marincin during pre season. We know what we have in marincin. It's a good idea to give Rosen a legit shot at sticking. Way more upside there than with marincin. If Rosen bombs, then sure.

My guess is that Mizzi evaluates defensemen on little more than corsi (i.e., a glorified plus/minus stat). Marincin is really great because he has a nice corsi (which is due to his skill at preventing zone entries).

Notice there are none of his regular 'Zaitsev stinks' posts today. Zaits had a really nice corsi last night.

Borgman and Rosen are a pairing today in practice. No sign of Carrick

Yeah, he was mainly going easy and being positive. Maybe trying to keep the team's confidence up.
