2017-18 Miscellaneous Canes News Thread

Owning an NFL franchise is a license to print money. I'd even take the Cleveland Browns. Really! The Cleveland Browns. Man, that felt weird to type.

The NFL is unique because all teams get equal shares of the giant TV contracts. Even though the TV ratings are flat, they still sell plenty of ads because they need to reach people who buy trucks, beer and Viagra.

SAS main owner Goodnight might try to buy the NFL panthers. I assume he turned down a chance to buy the Canes. I heard he had no interest in sports but I guess the NFL is the crown jewel of sports. Panthers will probably sell for around $2 bil.

I'll believe that when it actually happens. Goodnight has other issues that would make it difficult for him to be majority partner in that kind of deal. Not going into details, so don't ask. Now, if his wife was the lead partner in a group, sure. That rumor would have wheels.

Has there been a discussion on this board about the Waddell interview (13+ minutes) yesterday with Adam Gold on WRAL?

Waddell: We know this team can't come back with this same roster

Gist of it, from a quick listen, was anything but the title...that is if Waddell is speaking the company line, regardless of who is "GM".

- Goalie tandem did them in this season (so that's their narrative, eh?)

- Implied Darling came in a bit overweight and perhaps a bit out-of-shape

- Darling perhaps begins in Charlotte next season

- There's a place for Cam on the roster next year

- Bring in a third goaltender and have the three candidates fight it out for the two NHL slots (oh, yeah, that'll work out just fine)

- Sounds like Peters keeps his job as there was talk of getting Bill the players he needs (Ha!)

I don't know about the rest...I quit listening and went into a state of depression

If Waddell is still here by the end of the summer and ANY of that happens then I’ll be a former season ticket “member”

If Peters is fired the first question to Dundon will be "why did you fire a guy you kept saying was really good ?" . He could say he wants the new GM to pick the coach which makes sense.

TD can get a gm for a couple dollars. He can go to stein mart and buy several packages of socks, and paint different faces on them. Thus he can tell the SP what to do and it will relay it to the coach or better yet directly to the players.
‘Okay boys, tonight we are going to use the Flying V. I saw it in the mighty ducks and it worked for them so it’ll work for us. Go get em’.

Again, it's impossible to sort the "narrative" out from the reality with the guys who write about hockey for a living, so I'm just waiting to see how it all plays out. I'll say it again for emphasis ... I'm still waiting for Dundon to show me the first sign that he has any clue what he's doing with the Canes, or that anything he's doing will make the team any better. So far, all we've seen is nonsense.

Goodnight is among five potential bidders for the Panthers mentioned in this piece from ESPN...

He’d probably tell them to use the Stratocaster

I just wish we all could flash forward to the first day after the regular season ends and see what Dundon has up his sleeve with changes to all the stooges mismanaging and cough cough...coaching this outfit.

Peters and the entire gang should be shipped out, Waddell should be shown the door and hire someone/anyone that can come in and start cleaning this mess up.

I don't think that is much different than any other coach/GM that gets fired. They all have ownership support.....until they are fired. Usually the "vote of confidence" moment is the kiss of death.
